I've got McAfee Security Centre - spam filter is great, customisable for those that do sneak through and easy to check the junk folder before you delete.

if your using Microsoft outlook - (Which i know you are). Search for a program called Spam Bayes.
Its intelligent so as you mark emails as spam it learns which to automatically filter as they come in. Its superb.
Ive used it for years.

BT is my ISP and the spam filter used by them / Yahoo is incredibly effective. Very little junk gets through and equally very little genuine stuff gets stopped. I don't have more than half a dozen spam e-mails hit my mailbox each day, but around 100 or more spotted and stopped.

Having used a number of software titles to stop spam the only effective one that stops it at your ISP and before you download it is Mail Washer.
Simply to use and you can see all the mail held in your ISP's inbox. Filters are easy to set up and it has the abilty to learn. It is also connect to spamcop and has automatic virus wiping for known viruses.
You can look at the first few lines, or see the full header, of the e-mail and delete or download as you wish. Known spam is automatically marked for deletion. Push of a mouse and the the lot is deleted from the server.
Works for me.

I used to use mailwasher but the free version only worked on a single account. If you had more than one e-mail address then you had to purchase the pro version.
Is it still the same.
Cheers Jim.

I use spam fighter, which works well.

Hi Jim,
I have only ever used the pro version - well worth the money as it letes you read e-mails on the server before you download them.

I just delete mail without opening it these days when Its not from any of my known sources.
If I'm not sure about it then I drag and drop it on to a floppy disc and open it from there. I believe you can't get a virus unless it is on the hard disc.
I dont get a lot of e-mails so it's easy to keep on top of it.
If one slips through then my AVG mail checker works fine.

Hi Jim,
No matter where it is stored once you open it the virus will run - floppy, cd, zip file etc!
Better deleting it before it get into your pc
