I was on adwords for the forum & my photography.

Dont know what to think really. I seemed to getb laods of "Hits" which of course cost you money. But I could never translate them into business.

I ask everybody who enquires where the got my nme from and non wre from Google.

I have since paused both "Campaignes" to get further advice.

I would be very interested in your comments.

I do like the statistics you can get from there though

SNAP

I have over the past six months run six campaigns with around 6/7 adverts for each, all aimed at different people

ie Civil Weddings

Weddings from outside my county

Weddings in one location only

Portraits etc etc

At first I started with only a small amount per click & did not seem to get many clicks, those that I did must have been all the companys that then tried to sell me a way of getting higher amount of clicks !!

After a couple of months I stopped them because of the reasons that you gave.

Then with the website being updated early Dec I ran them again this time with a much higher pay per click ( mainly because of the amount of other Photographers that must be trying with adwords) You have to pay such a lot on some of the top used words.

I have had to contain the clicks per day or else I would be bankrupt, this has meant that the number of click = views on the site has been silly, but still nobody that books seems to have come though ADWORDS.

Does this mean that all the clicks are by other Photographers that use adwords & try the different words to see where thier add comes & them click on our adds, which they then know is costing us money at the same time as looking & copying our work !!

With over 9,000 clicks from Adwords in the past six months & as to date not a booking the time has come to stop, but I must admit that the stats are fun :D

Very interesting Alan.

You are right if you dont limit your daily expense then you would go to the wall.

Anybody else with any comments about this would be appreciated.

I will not be going "Live" again without some reassurance.

Do google have a department clicking the google adwords adverts ??

Just a thought not a statment

I find the best way is just to get a good rating with Google or other search engines by optimising your site. The site might not be the flashiest around and have lots of whizz bang features or graphics but ultimately if it is coming up in the top 10 for your search terms and your are hitting your target terms then that matters more (IMHO) If you are paying for web design you should ask your designer what they are doing for search engine optimisation (SEO). If a site is done in flash then it is virtually invisible to google. I don't know what you are paying for Adword but the cost of SEO may be cheaper.

Hope this helps,

Andy
