I've been able to hook up the AV out on all my laptops to the TV go view pics.

Have you thought about projecting your images? You'd get much better resolution, but maybe won't be able to watch the football as well!

I've had mixed results outputing from a laptop
to a TV screen, the pictures ever look as good
as they do on a proper monitor....

What I've found helps is resizing the image
to the screen size of a TV... i.e. about 500
pixels high...

Less flicker and stuff...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL

PAL is the UK Screen size....

When outputing a AV feed from the camera directly,
you get marging of lines causing a flicker effect
sometimes...

You may get better results creating a quick DVD of the images
and using a dvd player thorugh a scart socket to show them.

Here's someone discussing this type of thing...

Some good pointers there...

Yer, PAL isn't quite the same as size, but the Phase Alternate Line, 625 lines per frame does give you the resolution. HOWEVER, whilst there are 625 lines per frame, 50 of those lines are given over to other data - embedded subtitles, sync bursts etc etc (which I really won't go into now!)

Basically, and rather simplistically in digital photo terms, displaying a digital image on a PAL 625 TV, will effectively show an image that is 575 pixels high, and the bigger the screen, the less effective resolution as there will still only be 575 lines of image.

I still think, that to show your images off at their best, it would be worth investing in a digital projector to hook up to the 'pooter.

see and you wonder why im confused! At the moment i project and i always resize the images to get best res just thought it would look more modern on a flat screen. The projector is ok tho if u dont think its worth it. What shall i dooooooooooooooooooooooooooo????

Hmmmmmmmm will the screen be in a public area?

Very well lit? Then a projector is not really ideal...

If you want to have clients sitting down waiting
and seeign these in the public area or front window
then a LCD Screen with a DVD player would be an option.

Then you can put it on repeat and leave it running..

I project at the moment which is ok I already resize the images for better res. Just thought a flat screen would be more modern looking. so what do i do its no wonder im confused!!!!!!! went to pc world they showed me on theirs, image was ok. i use a programme for my proofing 'studio suite' u can show the images with frames round and in montages etc and compare them all so i will still be using this programme.

Hmmmmmm then..... Unless you plan to watch the football on it or that you might as well splash out and buy a large LCD PC Monitor...

And output the images straight to that....

Better resolution and less hassle for you...

This for example... A good 3 inches.... Would you like one
of those??

I got chatting to a guy at Edinburgh Airport while waiting for a delayed flight to Birmingham (Not pertinant, just background)

We were talking about the lousy big flat TV we were watching, and he told me that it was a plasma screen - bad fault with plasma is that they tend to develop ghost images when a single image is projected for too long, rather like old computer screens with no screensaver. So if your going for a big flat one, get LCD.

It must be true, a bloke I'd never met before, nor ever will again told me, and you can trust me, I'm some bloke spouting words of wisdom about which I know nowt!

Mmmmm, I'm not sure it wouldn't happen on an LCD as well Robbie.

'Tis why we all have groovey Screen Savers on our 'puters!

True, but this was also on tellies - no idea if LCD tv's do it too. Probably.

I still think a 30 inch lcd monitor like the Dell ones
would be best, for picture quality and that...

then you can put on a screeen saver, you could
have a dedicated cheap PC rnning a slide show
of images on it all the time...
