This shot was taken on a D200, 50mm f1.8 Nikkor 1/15 @f2.2 ISO1600
LH shot pp in Nikon Capture 4.4 and only has had the WB corrected, no noise reduction.
The second shot is with Ninja, it's altered the WB and exposure!
The D200 is so good noise wise i'm not sure ninja is necessary.

again the Lh shot is as pp in NC4.4, some noise visible but not IMHO objectionable.
the RH shot is ninjered and yes the noise has been smoothed but detail has been lost, see the microphone.
I think that for recovering underexposed images it has a place but not for every day work especially if the exposure has been well controlled.

I guess NN will help for those occasional shots that you REALLY need to rescue.
Thanks for posting those - like you say - questionable - when does noise become "detail"?

What do you think Tony ?

Well lets put this way I'll not be parting with any money for this one, I've been using the trial version which for some reason is not watermarking the filtered file which is OK by me. The other one I've tried and used is NeatImage but I've stopped using that since I upgraded to CS2.
I think the CS2 noise filter is perfectly useable and it does not seem to acentuate any edge effects as ninja seems to do; look how this effect has been hardened round both the microphone an the chimney.
Anyway I only really have a use for noise reduction on the few occasions I use the Leica at ISO400, I don't find noise a problem with the D200 at any speed given care with exposure.
I think prevention is better than cure and getting the exposure correct is all important to keeping noise down. I bracket when ever I can even when using RAW. Digital is far less foregiving than either neg film or trannie. We all know the blown highlight problem but going too far the other way agrevates this noise issue.
Sorry for the delay replying, I've been/am watching the rugby.http://www.wedding-photography.org/forum/images/smilies/crazy.gif

France v Ireland you really do need to see it all, a very strange match.
What are your thoughts on noise reduction?

Funny I had an image that was very very noisy. It seemed to do quite a good job.
The images you have used didnt seem to be very noisy to begin with so maybee the program was trying to correct what wasnt there.
It could be that more functions are unlocked with the full version so mine is doing a bit more.
I will post my pictures later. Kids party today. Seems to be one every week.

Has anyone tried noiseware community edition, its free and i think the results are amazing, and its a quick running program so doesnt interfere with workflow too much.

Tony May be a fan, but not me.
Never even knew a match was on. :)
Never seemed to get interested in any sport.
I had a neighbour who was a a freelance video cameraman. He just couldn't believe that I have never been to a football match in all of my, at that time, 55 years. He took me along to a match he was filming for broadcast that evening. I took my camera, but came back with a load of duff shots. Most had missed the action, since I just was not interested or familiar with the game. My neighbour just about fell out of the camera gallery when I asked him what the score was at the end. He told me the score, but just shook his head when I had to ask which team had won.

Yes I'm a fan and got the scars to prove it. Half time at the moment but the wrong side are winning.
Never been into soccer especially now adays with the stupid antics those over paid stars get upto when they score. I'd love to put some of them in a front row, they'd not know what had hit them.
PS. Martin real players only need 80 minshttp://www.wedding-photography.org/forum/images/smilies/grin.gif

I got hold of Noise Ninja myself, very impressive. This shot was at ISO1600 in some difficult lighting conditions....
