go to any website....
Right click on the page and see VIEW SOURCE...
Should be at the top like this page...
In the <HEAD> tags.
<html dir="ltr" lang="en">
<head><title>Welcome To Our Photography Community - Reply to Topic</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" />
<meta name="generator" content="vBulletin 3.0.3" />
<meta name="keywords" content="photography forum,photography,community,images,post images,critique,vbulletin,forum,bbs,discussion,jel soft,bulletin board" />
<meta name="description" content="Photography forum designed for professional and amateur photographers." />

Hi Dotty, did you do your own site? If so which programme did you use?
Most diy progs are WYSIWYG and write the html code for you. If you can access the code you can type in your own meta tags etc.
I must admit I'm not that familiar with progs such as Frontpage as I use Dreamweaver MX for all my web design. You will also have to use a FTP programme such as Cute to reload your site on the server to make any changes apply.

I can highly recommend CoffeeCup HTML Editor for website building. All of the really useful bits are soo simple to use - usually 'one-click' - and the 'Wizards' make building tables, fonts, inserting links with images dead easy.
Not sure how much the latest version costs, but I think I paid around $30 for it a couple of years ago.
Keywords will help you in the search engine stakes, but I have found the cheapest way of upping your rating is to include loads of links to other websites close to your home page (ie: one click away).
Engines like Google use 'Bots' to suss out your URL when you submit it, these little programs peep in to your website and see how many images, how much text and how many links there are, as well as reading your Meta Data.
I used to dedicate one page totally to links off site. For my underwater website, this would include Dive Boats, holiday operators, kit retailers, photo suppliers etc. The link from my home page was kept extremely small (hardly noticeable when viewed by a human) but stood out a mile to the Google Bots - instantly took me from page 3 to first page of a google search for 'underwater photographs'.
PS: Also worth noting - whenever you make changes to your site - resubmit it to the searc engine people, keeps them busy and always worth a try. They are, after all, the people who put YOUR shop window in front of the 'people on the street' so it makes sense to let them have the latest version.
