One of my acting friends posted this on the amdram site...

"Here's something to be aware of - apparently there is a large number of counterfeit memory cards doing the rounds just now. One particular brand that is being counterfeited a lot is SanDisk. Should you buy a SanDisk Compact Flash card, examine it closely. There should be a serial number printed in white on one of the thin edges. If that's not there, return the card immediately.

As you may guess, I bought a counterfeit card. I had no idea it was fake until I contacted SanDisk to complain it was sometimes losing pictures. The original retailer's web site is permanently "under development" and I have found out that the company is under investigation by Trading Standards authorities."

Don't know who the "original retailers" was at the moment..

I think you just got to be careful where you get your cards from...

Hi,

This is an article on E-bay all about Sandisk and how to spot fakes. It would appear that more than 95% of sales are fakes! (That is not bought direct for reputable mainline dealers)

Thats the link for info.

I got stung with a fake 2GB san-disk card from ebay - in fact all that was wrong with it was the speed, it was 3 times slower than the genuine article, presumably just another cheapo brand that was rebadged. however, there are quite a few horror stories about now regarding the very high capacity cards where they fail to format up to their alleged capacities - moral of the story - buy your cheap cards from 7DayShop (see other thread here) (http://www.photography-forum.org/showthread.php?t=7618)

I did get my money back and got to keep the the card - they wouldn't fund the return postage to China. Unlike George's experience the card has not let me down.....

.....but do I REALLY know that?
