For those interested ...v1.0 will be released on 19 Feb. Initial discount means that you pay $200 in the US and £125 + VAT (£146) in the UK. Rip-Off UK means we pay 25% extra. I noted an Australian user who said that it was 46% extra there; so may be we're (UK) lucky?
I'd pay £100, not so sure about £146?

I played with the sample program and didn't like it. Deleted it off my computer today in fact. Maybe because it was new and I didn't understand a lot of the program. Should offer a free class with that price.

I have the beta version, but have only used it a few times... Im not sure if I would buy it or look at cs3.. Then again Ive only done 8 hours off photo/computer work in last two months so I guess I need to use it everyday to evaluate..

Well to be worth £140+ they have got to have speeded it up a lot. As a filing system thats expensive, the RAW converter is good; seems to be a mix of RSE and ACR; but ACR does a good job on it's own in CS2 which I've got, the slide show function is limited and the web functions are not that brill.
I used the beta quite a lot at first but it's been untouched for a week or two as it's so slow. Think I'll take a leaf out of Paul's book and delete it.
On the other hand I've a mate who thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread.

There are a lot of people who are raving about it. I deleted it a long time ago. Tried Beta 4 and 4.1 and both were very very slow on my system. Feb 19th also sees the release of ACR 3.7 which is compatible with LR 1.0. If that means that it is the same as ACR4.0 beta (which I seriously love - marriage is on the cards!) then I could hardly see a need to buy LR. Doubtless I'll download it - it will have a 30 day trial and then let my heart and my wallet battle it out.

Hi - I have been using Lightroom for the past few months now and I wouldn't be without it. It took a while to get my head around its concepts, but I was persistant to the point where it suddenly all 'clicked' into place.
You are right about the speed though. I was lucky enough to upgrade my PC a few months ago due to a lightning strike (lucky?), and now Lightrooms speed is acceptable - but not amazingly so. I guess that the beta will still be full of the debug code.
So - in my opinion, it is worth the time and effort to get to know it better.

Just noted that Dabs have it listed for £126 - that's better.

I've been using LR for some time now and have also been using the new features of version 1.0. For serious photographers this is a great piece of kit. If you don't do much editing to your images (say a wedding tog) then this is way qucker than CS3 or bridge. You can remove red eye and also clone and heal so no nead to go to CS, although you can do. The web side is much improved and overall speed of the program too. It is hot competition for Apple's Aperture.
