Hi All. My name is Alan Fairhurst from Cheshire. I like to photograph anything but particularly animals and scenic shots. I'm not too good but I keep trying to improve.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm also a bit of a fumbler when it comes to the old P.C. so I may take awhile to get the hang of posting images. Some of my images can be view at:

You will probably think of them as "Happy Snaps"! nothing very artistic. Mind you. I'm proud of one ability - I can photograph a black cat or dog without it turning into a sillouette. :-)).
But I've had one problem for some time now. I'm take photos for a local dog display team. For quite awhile I've been trying to perfect one particular shot. It has every possible conflicting contrast imaginable; moving subjects - dogs, usually German Shepherds - a backdrop of either trees or blue sky - Fire Hoops, (it's a fire run), with lots of black smoke - usually shooting into the sun - and attached to the front of the elavated cat walk are three white sheets with adverts!
The day I get a perfect shot I'll consider myself a photographer.
By the way - I use a Cannon 350D with a Sigma 55mm lense. I've also just bought a Sigma 170-500mm lense. My first try at digital photography. I'm not yet impressed.
Anyone know how to get rid of two EOS 300V cameras by the way?
