decided i really must make the effort to learn photoshop as it seems to be the editing software of choice these days , and so much more powerful/versatile than the freebie software i use . so ive got a trial version of cs5, only trouble is im waaaaaay out of my depth here . can anybody reccomend a good tutorial for complete novices , working up from the very basics to the more involved stuff ?

What you want to start off with is getting to know the tools and what they do.

Problem is, if its for photography you will want to start off with Camera Raw. Go to Adobe TV and search Photoshop then Camera Raw. They are not basic but you should be able to see what things do.

Here is one of mine and there are plenty more on the site. http://vimeo.com/29007189

Have a look through, some will show some basic stuff.
