someones shot can we not include the steps taken? I feel this is only polite, if we don't include the method no-one will learn anything which rather defeats the main object of the forum.

Even worse is to say 'I tweeked the what ever' without saying how. I know we are all quilty of this but I'm trying to at least say which tools I've used. This came home to me when commenting on some of Karey's work.

I am guilty of sometimes not listing the steps I have used to edit a photo...*hangs head in shame*....

my only excuse is that I am a ditzy bird sometimes and I have forgotten exactly what I did to get it that way...

sorry I will try harder in future...;)

yer i see what you are sayin...but... i sometimes feel that the edits i do will lead the original tog to go to the same tools/options and have a go themselves... i do worry that i am telling someone something that they already know but didnt get around to applying it to a posted image.

i usually indicate which tools etc i used and i figure that they can always post back or PM me to ask a bit more in depth if necessary

I agree, Tony. Would be very helpful indeed. Another thing I thought would be useful would be a 'Tip From A Pro' added to the newsletter, the likes of a short essay on lighting, or one of your DoF posts.

As for the mentoring program, I'm considering taken it up when I start college, so I don't become pigeonholed. :)

The Tip from a Pro could be a fantastic add on to the newsletter, definelty.

Ummm I dont know about that Tony...the mentoring program I feel is for persoanlised one on one tutoring for members who want the extra help and advice...

the forum still has a place for tutorials and advice...I would hate to think that this assistance is restricted to only those who pay....:)

Oh...you were joking...;)c

I'd also like to see an agony aunt section in the newsletter too...

something along the lines of the examples below...

Dear Aunt Bindii,
My boyfriend and I have been going out for two years now and he always want to have sex.
He would have it 3 times a day if I let him.
What should I do?

Dear Frigid Bridget,
And your problem is?

No, I was serious, as you well know I'll help any one with a problem and in fact there are a lot of threads dealing with the basics and these include specfic tutorials but they are tucked away and split between at least two boards. I do feel these should be grouped together and made more obvious but even so if people only took the time to use the forum search before jumping in with a question they'd probably find the subject has already been covered in some depth.
Yes the mentoring is personalised and should be done to cover the areas the 'pupil' wants; at the speed they want. I know from my experience with Karey I started her off with a DoF/aperture excersise and she's now asking all sorts of questions so now instead of me leading her she's now finding her own way with me 'reading the map' to get her to her destination.

As I'm learning too, I appreciate Tony's suggestion.. and the explanation he gave yesterday on the 'all the rest' thread was really useful .. I didnt know anything about that for instance and certainly would not have had the faintest clue what to do with it but I can see it now and how his suggestion can change a whole photos look..it was quite inspiring, actually..
I incidentally had disasterous photos 'improved' a while ago now, for which I was very grateful, but its trueit canbe a bit frustrating not knowing how to attempt the given result myself.. I find  PS can be like a real jungle at times if one is not naturally tech minded.

With PS you have two main choices, get a good book such the ones by Martin Evening or Scott Kelby alternatively spend a lot of money on Adobe courses or similar. A lot of camera clubs also run PS courses but the only problem, as can happen on forums, the person giving the advice may pass on their bad ways, a bit like being taught to drive by a relative rather than a trained instructor.
