I've set up an action that increases the canvas by 5 pixels using white background colour followed by an other canvas increase of 5 pixels uing the foreground black.

I have a CS2 template that puts a plain black frame around the image. It's built around a 6mp image, so 3000 x 2000 pixels, and is a .psd file.

If you want to PM me with your email address I'll send it to you.

All you need do is drag the image over the green box, then delete the layer with the green box, and flatten the layers.

To see the effect, go to www.m2visions.com, the main image on the index page uses a similar border.

Let me know if you're interested

Hi Alan,
I have a couple of hundred of these pre-prepared borders which are simply resized to suit the size of your photo (or vice versa) and your opened foto is dragged onto it using the "screen" blending mode.
I can send you a few at about 1MB each with full instructions for Photoshop 7,CS,CS2 if you like,
Brad

If you can get hold of a copy of Digital Photo October 2005 - Issue Number 71, they included 54 borders on the free Cd.
Hope that helps.

An easy way of adding borders in PS (I use PS7) is to open a photo you want a border on. If you want a border outside the photo increase the canvas size to the width of border. In my example I?ve enlarged it by 40 pixels, 20 pixels all around. If you don?t mind the border inside the photo then leave it as is.

If you increased the canvas size then there?s two ways of putting in a border. Let?s talk about not enlarging the canvas first.

Go to Select and choose All. The marching ants will be going around the whole photo. Select Edit then Stroke. The Stroke box will come up. Here you want to select the width of your stroke and color in pixels, I chose 20px and blue, the color you want your border, and then select the location. Outside the photo, (if you select this without enlarging the canvas you won?t see the border) inside the photo or centered.

Then you can set the blending mode or opacity if you want. If after you agree to the look and you want to change the opacity there is a Fade Stroke command under Edit but it must be right after you selected OK in the stroke box and the marching ants are still traveling around your photo. After you Deselect it doesn?t work.

Now if you increased your canvas size then there are two ways of putting a border. One is the Stroke method where you select outside the photo and fill in the canvas. The other is to take you Magic Wand and select the extra canvas area so the marching ants are going around the whole outside and inside of the canvas area. Select Paint bucket and color and fill the area with your color.

Hope this wasn?t too confusing.
