View Full Version : Excel question ...

I have an annoying little gripe with an Excel spreadsheet.

I enter data (a number) into a cell , where that cell is part of a column of numbers summed at the bottom.

If I hit <enter> the focus drops to the next cell (that's fine) - but the total is not updated at that point - which I am sure it always used to.

It now only updates when I hit <save> to save the sheet.

I suspect I have done something stoopid - but can't find a reference in the help system or MS site (I suspect not knowing the terminology for what I am doing doesn't help me in the search).

Any ideas what I might have done/be doing wrong?

Cheers

Mark,

this is probably too simple but worth checking,
check the workbook options under the tools menu, under the calculation tab make sure 'automatic' is set.

Try the following
Tools > Options > Calculation and make sure the Automatic radio button is selected.

-or-

Ensure that the summed cell is the one after the calculation e.g.

if the summed cell is A45 the calculation should be =SUM(A1:A44)

To me it looks like the first

Did you check the cell that has the total and see if there was a formula for that column?

Hi

- the suggestion for the automatic calculation was spot-on.

I have no idea how it was turned-off - but it's now well and truely back on

Cheers everyone
