I had a go on another thread.
Please show me how to make this better....
Over to you.

I've hardly done anything to it at all Robbie...I just selected the sky area and feathered it then hit auto levels...the selected inverse so the foreground was selected then hit auto levels...upped the contrast an saturation a tiny bit...
although I think it would make a nice mono too....:)

I did a little more to it. First I adjusted the levels then added some contrast to it. After that I used the Unsharp Mask. Then I cropped it to this.

Just fixed max black using the eyedropper in curves, used the shadow on one of the tree stumps in the foreground, and then tweeked the cruve to give the mid tones a bit of punch. Oh and cropped off some of the empty sky.

I've adjusted the levels by bringing in the markers to the edge of the histogram on each of the rgb channels. Then copied the background layer, changed the layer mode to 'soft light', set the foreground colour to black and painted some darkness into the sky using a large soft brush. Then I amended the opacity and fill of the layer to my taste, flattened the image and cropped it.
Obviously on the b&w version I desaturated it first :)
I also added a gradient to darken the sky a little.

Cheers peeps.
Stu - Love the B&W.
I'm so glad I did this - other interpretations and all the background on how it was done.
I reckon I'll put some other images up for C&C on the main threads and in here for alternatives!
