Hi everyone,

I'm a 37yr (cringe) old mother of two children (17 and 11 yrs), we live halfway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast in Australia with my hubby, cat and a menagerie of orphaned wildlife animals that I rehabilatate in my spare time.

While I've always had an interest in photography I've only really had the time to try something more serious than the odd 'snapshot' in the last couple of years. My first love is wildlife photography but somehow I have fallen into wedding and portrait photography - I am sure that I am not the only one here with the same story to tell....I started taking a few shots of friends weddings or children etc as favours, they in turn showed the shots to their friends, those friends showed their friends etc... I just turned around one day and I was a wedding photographer. Although I have never advertised I seem to find myself getting more and more bookings, but I do try to keep it down to just a couple of weddings and perhaps 2-3 portrait sessions a month - as I do have another job that keeps me busy. I have found photographing weddings to be both challenging yet hugely satisfying and my utmost respect goes to those of you out there who make this your full time occupation.

I recently took the plunge and bought my first digital camera a Canon 20D, and while I am happy with it; I feel that my film camera - Canon EOS 3 still takes a better quality picture.

I've raved on for far too long so I'll close for now. I'm looking forward to getting to know the members of this community and to sharing our knowledge of photography.

Your story is similar to mine. Had a full time job, the photography started to take over etc.

I also thought that weddings etc. wouldnt be my main income but last year we did 60.

Everybody is very friendly here and always ready to help. Any questions you do have - fire away.

Have fun. Post some images if you get time.

I must admit I have not been to Brisbane or the Gold coast. I made it to Sydney and bits of NSW on the way to Canberra. Plus I was lucky enough to learn to scuba dive on the GBR just off Cairns. We hope to do the east coast on a future trip - that would complete the loop right the way round :-)

I'm still jealous that you live there though!

Cheers

Mark

The Great Barrier Reef is lovely, as is the Brisbane/Gold Coast area where I live. I guess I am lucky to live where I do but like all things we tend to take stuff for granted sometimes.
If you do make it to the East Coast of Australia you will find plenty to photograph in the way of scenery as there is some beautiful natural rainforest area's, waterfalls and mountain 'backdrop' scenes to shoot - oh yeah the beaches are ok too.
