So when you try to add text it doesn't create a text layer?

yes there is a text layer which does show the text written in the layer, but there is no visible signs of the text in the text area.

Errmmmmmmm.....

...how many layers are there?

Stoopid thing to do, but at the end of a long stint at the monitor, it's caught me out a coupla times.

You haven't got anther layer ABOVE the text layer have you?

Check the layers palette and make sure your text layer is at the top of the pile.

(Yeah, I know I'm stupid and you guys aren't, but just tryin to throw some ideas in)

have u checked the text size is huge, ur usual sizes around 10 or so are no good, i get stung like this regularly, my method is, draw text box, goto those two boxes in toolbar (white and black one) bring white to front, then back to text box, write ur stuff, (stretch text box as big as you want cos i feel it kind compacts up with any size text) try and highlight it all see if u can see it doing that, and go and change size again and colours. Ive also noticed no cursor inside text box too.

The easy way to place copyright is to make your text into a custom brush.

open a new document then create a blank layer
set your desired foreground colour
from the custom shapes drag the copyright symbol on to this layer
type in your details
using the rectangular marque tool select the area around your text and symbol
then go Edit>define brush set>name your brush>OK
You now have your copyright as a brush in your brush pre-sets library
This will look squashed up in the drop down memu
Select the brush tool and click on your new brush, it will be right at the bottom of your brushes.
select the size , opacity etc that you want and simply click once on your chossen image.
If you want you can now change the foreground colour to suit your needs, eg mine are usually black or white but if you want orange just make that the foreground colour.
You now have a copyright symbol for instant use.
As I understand it from my legal eagle this has little meaning unless the date is included and real names should be used unless you use a registared business name.

Also check in which order the text layer is in. If it's below the photo you won't see the text. It'll be behind the photo.

True but with the brush idea you don't make a new layer, the symbol etc is merged into the active layer so you either have to flatten the image or as you say make sure the image is at the top if you have a lot of layers that you want to keep.

This is true. I have a disk that's from a book I got on "How To Wow in Photoshop" and there was already custom brushes included.
