I know that this is going to generate hate mail :-) But, I've just upgraded to Vista with a clean install. Love it to bits - fast, fun and intuitive. CS3 loads and runs faster. And bridge CS3 (beta 1) runs like a dream. I did have to spend an additional £100 or so on upgrading 4 progs that wouldn't work under Vista, but otherwise the upgrade has been flawless.

Nooo dont sucumb to the Bill Gates syndrom. :Dm

I setup a new pc for a friend with it installed and hated it, with a passion, and found it very slow on the spec of machine it was installed on, which surprised me.

I did hear if you switch off transparent desktop its meant to double the speed.

Mmmm...interesting.

Not going to upgrade though, I'll use whatever gets installed next time I buy I new 'pooter.

Have heard some scarey stuff about the 'dial-home' properties built into Vista though. I'm pretty big on privacy and uncalled for surveillance so it does put me off a bit. (But that's just 'cos I spend so long browsin porn!)

Chris,

32 bit or 64, retail or oem?

You have a new ally, I'm running 64 bit, with CS3 (beta - soon to be retail)
and as you say it's quick, I think quite a powerful machine is needed, shame Nikon don't support 64 bit yet (or have any plans to either) although Capture NX works very well (for Nikon software) on 64 bit.

Nintendo - I'm using 32 bit - that caused me some hastle with drivers, but not too much. I didn't think I'd be using the photo features in Vista, but it's fast and handy for moving stuff around - kind of a mini Bridge. I've got used to using Vista so quickly I'm now confused with XP at work. However, I suspect that a lot of my joys are associated with a clean install rather than the change to Vista?

I only switched to Vista to make use of all the memory I have - 4GB so no page file, no scratch disks - my choice not Bill Gates'.

Sure there are some niggles, the odd crash and support for 64 bit is patchy but getting better every day - I do however wonder if I should have gone for 32 bit but this seems counterintuitive with a 64 bit processor and once you sort uac out (i.e. turn it off) then it works like a dream.
