Ok finally I think we are ready.

I would like to introduce to you the "NEW" forum printing service.

Please see the price list below I'm sure you will see it beats all the prices out there at the moment.

I'm sure you have all already seen the new Moderator Dave Ashton. He is my local printer. I can 100% vouch for his service - professionalism - and prices !!

Me and a other local professionals have been using him for the last few years and his service is second to non. Nothing is too much trouble - any problems are sorted straight away and his printing is spot on.

OK here is a brief outline of the service that Dave and his staff are going to be able to offer.

The first step if your interested is to send me a private message and I can then sort your details with Dave etc.

· Either Dave, Mark or Julie will be available to advise on any printing issues either relating to our service or queries regarding printing in general. Between the 3 of us we have over 50 years experience in photo processing so most thing we should be able to address. They should be contactable by via messenger instantly most of the time, if not some one will answer enquirers within 24 hours 7 days a week on enquires@ashtonphotographics.co.uk .

· All the new accounts will be able to discuss their requirement with Dave directly IE if they like warmer printing, more contrast, no corrections at all, etc etc…. Each customer will have there own individual settings.

· All the printing is done on silver halide process using the latest Noritsu digital lab equipment, they use Kodak Royal Professional paper. All prints include copyright symbol on back print. All our pro printing is prejudged and checked, we never batch print (don’t look at them).

· FTP account set up for all accounts.

· All printing available in gloss or luster finish.

· Biggest print size 12x36 (will get prices for that stuff next week).

· Postage at exact cost (No ripping people off on the postage like some places)

· Printing using our services helps fund the forum

· They are very open to suggestions or ways to improve the service and are constantly expanding their services so any suggestions are more than welcome. Also if they get a request and don’t have the capacity to fulfill they will point them in the right direction.

· All orders will be down loaded every morning at 7am and dispatched "The same day day" first class. Can I say that again --- "Same day turnaround !!!!" If the customer is or is not in a rush they can use special delivery or second class respectively. The customer would have to send them a message to say so. Again these would both be charged at "exact cost".

· They will take the customer credit card details when they setup the FTP account and receipt of payment will be sent out with the order. Payment is due when you order, setting up 30 day accounts would just complicate things.

Below is the price list to follow.

5" by 4" - 10p
6" by 4" - 12p
7" by 5" - 20p
8" by 6" - 50p

Ive just had a chat with Dave and I had done the price list wrong.

Where I had put that to get the extra discount the 50 copies had to be of the same image - This is wrong

To qualify for the extra discount there has to be over 50 of that size in the complete order IE all your images.

Sorry for any confusion but I think this makes the prices even more attractive as I often order over 50 of one size at a time.

16th April 2007, 02:45 PM
Ok folks there are a few enquires coming in, ftp accounts will be set up this afternoon Martin will be in touch with the details. Just a slight correction to the prices already posted the 50 plus price on enlargements does not have to be the same image. So it is simply 50 images whatever they are. Obviously we are restricted to the UK:rain: Sorry Bindii. Anyone who needs any more info can send me a Pm or I am usually on Messenger UK office hours.

Being dim here - Can I use this service for my competition entries? Or is it commercial stuff only?

Stemmy
16th April 2007, 05:11 PM
Ok all ftp details have been sent to the people interested so far.

What Dave suggested was that new customers should send him a 6by4 image and he will print it with no corrections. This way you have a test print and you can then start to fine tune your colours from there.

Dave said this firts process would be done free of charge.

Dumb question - does that mean there is a discount on 50+ copies of the 7x5 prints - or just the ones shown?

Cheers

Mark

No the discount only starts on 10" by 8"s and above.

Morning all just a quick note to clarify the FTP and the way it works as I have had a few enquires this morning so I thought I better post it up. Right.

For sizes you need to drop them into folders that have the size and finish details i.e. 6x4G for 6x4 gloss or 9x6M for 9x6 lustre/matt, etc etc.... If you need more than 1 copy of an image simply copy it in the folder then the image is there twice or more as you require.

We check the FTP every morning at around 7am so we will pick up any orders from there however if you have uploaded an order feel free to contact me either via email or messenger at anytime through the day to let me know its there, if I can get it done there and then I will so it may speed up the process.

Hope this this Helps :icon_nice

Hi,

My uploads (in the past) have taken a long time and I usually leave them running overnight.

Do you have someway of seeing that an upload is in progress?

I usually print many hundreds of images and it would be useful to have them all processed in one batch, rather than spread out over a couple of days.

Cheers

Hi Mark,

Thats fine we can see when a upload has finished, however it would probably be helpful if you could drop us an email or contact via Messenger when you have finished uploading. That way we can get on it straight away plus you can keep adding to it until you have everything over. I will take your folder off the 7am check.

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere.

What is the DPI of the printer(s) you use?

I'm looking at printing some old photos I scanned in and want to be able to approximate how good they will look at various sizes (7x5, 10x8 & 20x16)

Cheers

Hi Mark,

Our printers can run into the thousands in dpi. However for the sizes you are talking about 300dpi is more than enough. Pushing beyond that will not make any noticable difference aside from leaving you with less space on your Hard Drive., and slowing down your workflow. Hope this helps

Hi Dave,

That's great thanks - I'll work with 300dpi - I'm sure it'll be fine.

Cheers

Hello, When I take photos with my mobile phone I send them to myself via e-mail. I there a way of enlarging them without losing the quality. Thanks.

any enlargement of an image can be done but not without degredation, basically your adding extra pixels that is not there when u upsize and image. You can use an image interpolation program that will make images larger and depending on what one depends on quality.

Google interpolation programs and see what comes up, the names escape me at the moment. Of course if the image is top notch quality at the start then it is a bit easier.

Dave Ashton

Ellie do you know how many pixels the camera on you phone has? This way I can tell you how big you can print at a decent quality. As barry says enlarging will always degrade the image,as would digitally zooming & cropping, but sending via bluetooth to a print kiosk would be you best bet for print quality. Hope this helps.

I'm sure I heard good things about this s/w

uses "fractals" to enlarge images - not sure how it will work on mobile images though.

Thanks Mark, I'll give it a whirl. I have found a programme called Qimage and have a 30 day free trial. It enlarges the image but...

Hi folks slight price alteration, we had both 5x4s & 6x4 at 10p. The 6x4s are now 12p, for obvious reasons.

What paper sizes do you offer for "panoramic" prints and how much would they be, volume discounts etc?

Hi Mark, we pretty much can do any size pano, if you let me know the sizes and quantities I can quote for you.

I have "trial" Pano images that are approx 15500 x 3500 pixels.

At this stage I am just looking to have some of my trial Panos printed-up - just to get an idea of how they look on paper rather than the screen.

I am looking for something around 20-30 inches along the longest length.

Volumes would (hopefully) come later

Hi Dave,

Can you do A4 prints?

If so - how much

Actually - I'll update this - is there a full product/price list published somewhere - to stop me asking questions like this - then I'll shut up :Dm:

Thanks

Mark

No problem Mark, the answer is yes and there are 2 ways of doing this (sort of)

1) If you don't need to be ultra precise 12x8 isn't a million miles away from A4

2) If you do then we would have to paste onto a 12x10. This sound excessive but because the correct width (portrait) is over 8 inches this takes us off the 8inch paper and onto 12".

See aforementioned pricelist for both option.

I've just got myself a 10mp camera and I need to get over 300 prints for wedding proofs. It takes forever using FTP, can I send a CD (or more accurately, a DVD) instead?

Thanks

Hi Dave,

Will eventually use your service with the digital prints, but do you by any chance process 120 film????

I can scan them myself, just need a good firm to develop for me.

Thanks

hello, I've never had any pictures printed since I moved on from taking just snapshots, so I'm a newbie at this. Is it ok to submit shots that I have cropped in photo shop and that will not fit the standard sizes? say a squareish picture, I guess it could be printed in a landscape format with blank space at either side, I could then cut it to size at home. Is that how it works?

Thanks.
