Hi all,

Really need some help with alternative methods of connecting the pixel king transmitter to my D600 rather than using the hotshoe.

Hi all,

Really need some help with alternative methods of connecting the pixel king transmitter to my D600 rather than using the hotshoe.

The reason I ask is that when I put the transmitter in the hotshoe, and then my SB700 flash on top of the transmitter, the image is a good few stops over exposed compared to when I just have the flash in the camera hotshoe.

I am therefore looking for a way to put the flash direct on the camera and connect the transmitter using one of the inputs on the D600 to trigger off camera flash.

The pixel king has a usb mini and pc sync but the D600 doesnt have PC. The D600 seems to have mini usb, mini hdmi and the gps input.

Is there a way I can use any of these to connect to the pixel king and trigger the off camera flash?

Many thanks.

I'd like a little advice on soft boxes please. I'm looking to have a go at single light portraits and am about to buy my softbox. I'm not sure which is going to be better as to size. and also is there a significant difference in square/rectangular to octaboxes?

I'm also going in for one of those collapsible black/white backgrounds that resemble a large reflector.

I Just bought reflector, cable release and had previously bought a Jessops 336 VM off Dave (GTE). It's going to be basic stuff really, head and shoulders and I have some willing subjects interested already. Just unsure as to what will be better on the lamp.

Any other pointers as to what I might also need would be appreciated :)

Thanks

My current equipment is all film gear, because I prefer film
I have 2 Canon F1N AE bodys, a Canon EF and a Canon T90 and an assortment of mainly Canon FD lenses from 17mm to 300mm which includes four zooms that I use mainly to shoot slides because they need precise framing, but I prefer prime lenses.

I'm always tied to a very small budget and decided to splash out £25 at eBay on a cheap but cheerful looking 70-210mm Sigma (as the longest I've got currently is an equally cheap Sigma 35-70mm).

Here's a photo of a virtually identical one...

6097230031_f0d7d19940_z.jpg

It's just arrived and there's a smear of what appears to be superglue where the f/stops are marked at the bottom. This is a little frustrating on its own but some has clearly travelled up the rubber material that slides as the lens zooms. There's also some of the same stuff on the rubber grip above the focal length display.

In fairness it may not be superglue but it's definitely tacky and unpleasant and it prevents the lens zooming smoothly.

I've taken a few photos and the lens seems to otherwise take decent photos. I can zoom the full range, it's just not terribly smooth. The focus is fine, although the AF feels a tiny bit slow compared to my other lenses - not sure if that's a 'feature' of an old, budget zoom lens or whether it indicates an issue.

Part of me says I should just contact the seller and return it, but on my budget I'm unlikely to find much else for my money and if I can easily clean it up then I might as well give it a go (although I'll be leaving a neutral rating at best). I'm genuinely not sure whether something has accidentally contaminated the lens casing during packing or whether it indicates some bodged repair (my experience with lenses would suggest that anything other than absolute precision leads to a dead lens so it feels unlikely).

I'm tempted to just have at it with some nail varnish remover but am slightly worried in case I end up damaging any other components.

Thoughts?

A friend is getting married in 2 weeks time and wants a few photos to remember the day by. It is a second marriage for both of them (she is 50 & he is 64). Both can only walk a short distance and use wheelchairs (unfortunately she doesn't like photos of her in the wheelchair, otherwise I could get a shot of them in their electric chairs holding hands, as that is how they often go for 'walks'; even a video of them racing would be cool, but never mind). As she gets tired easily she does not want photos of getting ready, so I will start at the church, which will make it easier as my husband will be setting up his electric piano and guitar to play the hymns / choruses (he won't be playing both at the same time!).

I am already getting nervous even though I have taken photos at friend's weddings before. I have 32GB cards in both cameras (2 in each, set to use 2nd as backup in case of a problem with a card), plus a 32 GB set and a 16GB set in reserve, so I won't be short of space even with the D600! I normally shoot single shots, but am thinking of continuous for the vital moments, does that sound like a good idea? I might set up the 2 user defined modes so I just have to switch it over and change all the settings I want to. Rather than mess with flashes (though I will have a couple available, with triggers), I have a video light, plus a shoot through umbrella if it needs extra diffusion, that my husband will hold if I need an extra pop of light. I am getting him trained as my VAL. He is wanting to help me play with a variable density filter and multiple flashes once I have finished with this wedding. I should not let him see the webinars as gets too adventurous!

I have been wondering about the effect of culture on how brides react (especially hearing about some Bridezilla's!). My daughter (as many of you know) is a makeup artist and yesterday she was making up a Malaysian bride who lives in Singapore. She stayed until the bride was totally ready and about to leave - when she started to pick up all her equipment (she has a lot!) the bride picked up a bag to help carry it out! My daughter quickly grabbed it from her and said although it was very sweet of her, she did not want her carrying stuff around while in her wedding dress. They also gave her a tip for going above & beyond which was very nice as well.

I have had so much help and advice off this forum - and I would like to give something back as a thank you. I hopefully come up with some useful help and advice for newbies, but want to give more.

I have a Sony Cybershot H2 digital camera with 12x zoom. It is only a 6MP camera but I think something with the way sony do their mp's its more!? Anyway, I know that it produces fantastic pics. This is the camera in question:

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Cybershot...N%3DB000ENN9BK

It takes ordinary double AA batteries - either ordinary or rechargable. It needs a memory card - but there are loads on ebay!! Takes the sony pro stick ones. Comes with the lead to connect it to computer to download the pics.

I would like this to go to a beginner preferably - it has the full modes on it - basically its a bridge camera, the only thing you cant do is change the lens.

I would like £10 to cover postage please - which can be paid into my paypal account.

If you would like it then please say here and then I will pull a name from the hat on Monday night and post the result :)
