Bought a new external hard drive. The new one is a Toshiba and my other one is a seagate one. I have unpacked and plugged it into a usb port on the computer and it recognised new hardware fine. I opened the new drive and this is what I have in there - ignore the paperwork file - that is one I have just put in! Its just my seagate one I am pretty sure didnt have all these files already in there. My daft question is - do I just drag and drop as normal to this space as I have the paperwork folder? So these other files will always be showing in there? I havent had to install anything

I am going to throw a laptop through a window any minute now - if its not his it will be mine! :(

My Dad has been on the internet all during the day - no problems at all. He was looking at booking a holiday for him and mum in France later in the year - we rang them but they didnt understand english so she said email them. We did that and got a reply which was in french - I went into google english french translater and then wrote a reply and translated that to french copied it into the email reply and sent. Thats the last done on it as I understand. dad then brought his laptop out the kitchen and said he couldnt find the reply we had sent..... I tried to send again and got a server errror message. Then noticed that he wasnt connected to the internet. All that is in the bottom right hand corner is the 2 little computer boxes with a red cross through them. When I click on them it says networks available and out sky one shows up with full signal - when I click connect it tries but wont do it - comes up with the message do you want us to diagnose the problem etc.... I say yes and it just talks about low signal - or interference or router problems. I know its not the router as I am connected to the same network and mine is fine.

I have tried a system restore, just in case Dad has pressed something he shouldnt have - but its the same.

I have checked that the little switch on the side for the wireless is on and it is.

I was going to upgrade my PC's RAM, as I am quite happy with software that is on it rather than buy a new PC. However, apparently I have the max RAM it can support. PC world said I could upgrade the graphics card to say 2GB
(Think I have 256 mb card at present) to make it faster for photo- editing. I can see the idea behind it, but does anyone know that if you are editing a photo in say Lightroom, does it access your video card's memory first before system RAM? Basically, I don't want to make the mistake of doing this if it won't improve speed

Cheers

Hello,

Sorry I've not been around for a while, I've been sorting my studio out!! A post on that at a later date :).

I've done some shoots lately that have resulted in 600-800 images, only about 20% keepers but Ive noticed my HDD's are filling up. The attached image is showing my space issues!.

So I have 3 HDDs in my machine, The C drive is a SSD and only houses windows and applications.

Drive E & G are the same hard drive but partitioned. Drive E houses all photos and very few documents I keep relating to work. Drive G Houses Music and video etc.

Drive F is a backup of drive E and is an internal HDD.

Drive H is an external backup of all images located in Drive E.

Now I have about £150.00 of the bosses (Mrs.) money to spend! - I've been thinking about a NAS drive so that I can access files anywhere, could be handy as my second shooter lives about 20 miles away. May also be good for sharing music files around the house on other devices, mainly the TV.

I could get rid of some of the internal drives and replace it with a 2TB drive for images??

I'm really keen to keep two backups of my images, as with most I don't want to lose one image, and losing the lot doesn't bare thinking about.

I'm not 100% sure what to do, my head has been stuck in the photography world for so long the computer world has kind of passed me by!!.

I hope this post makes sense and I thank you for reading/replying :)

We have become aware of a Critical security vulnerability in very commonly used plug-ins for the popular Wordpress blogging platform that at present a risk to our customers and has been recently publicised around the world.

The vulnerability is not specific to your hosting service with us, and is specific to WordPress.

All customers using Wordpress with either the W3 Total Cache plug-in or the WP Super Cache plug-in are encouraged to update their plug-ins as soon as possible.

This upgrade is necessary even if the plug-in is installed but not currently active.

Alternativley if you have either Cache plugin installed and is not being used, we would advise the plugin be deleted.

Wordpress plug-ins can be easily updated from within the Wordpress admin interface's plug-in section.

Hi, have had this happening for a while now, possibly seen after lightroom 3.6 installed on computer. Win Vista 64 bit. Have got file name of a picture I have just taken with Wingdings characters after them in recent documents menu( as per screen shot). When I click on the file, windows can't find it. Of course I can clear recent files menu easily, and it doesn't really affect the running of PC, just an annoyance. Possibly a file that Lightroom creates?
Cheers
(They use power Macs at school)Just would like to know peoples experiences of Macs vs Windows PCs, bearing in mind I have no problem sorting out 'error messages' on Windows, but got this vision of me sitting there scratching my head all night for a Mac, lol. Also, what are thoughts of Aperture vs Lightroom, bearing in mind she could get the latter as a student edition. She has never used either!

Here's one feature of Windows 8 I don't like at all.

In Windows 7, using Explorer to view a photo folder, you could immediately see photos that were incorrectly orientated. Easy to fix - select them all, and rotate. That rotation was then stored in the EXIF and if you loaded the shots to another program/web site, they displayed correctly.

But now.....Windows 8 Explorer auto rotates photos so that they appear correctly in Explorer. Except that it's only for the display in that session - the EXIF is not changed. So if you then load a photo which looks correct to another program, it displays incorrectly.

Worse, if you get smart and manually rotate the shots you know need turning, the EXIF is then changed to turn them 180 degrees, and not 90 degrees - because Windows has temporarily spun it 90 degrees, then you add another 90 !

I probably haven't explained this very well, but this is an identical scenario:

http://www.eightforums.com/software-...ewer-apps.html

I've researched this and there doesn't appear to be a switch to turn off auto-rotate.

What do others use to display their photo folders in Windows? (I don't have Lightroom by the way). I want to see the images that need rotation, and bulk rotate them.

I have a couple of issues that Id like some help with.

I have a 27inch iMac running 10.6.8. & office 2011. In word with text highlighted, I’m sure that on an old PC, when scrolling through the fonts, the ACTUAL TEXT fonts changed on the document itself. This is great for choosing an appropriate font. Any ideas why that doesn’t happen on the mac?

Excel...I have added the "save as" icon to the icon panel. But its disappearing, each time excel is started.

Something slowing mac down, sometimes, getting spinning coloured wheel, while working, for no apparent reason. How do I interpret the diagnostic panel? I have the 2.8 GHz Intel core i5 & 12 gig of ram.

In Photoshop I have On-One, Photoframe 4.6 pro. This was being offered free of charge, as an unlimited/unrestricted full version, at one point by On-One. Its been fine, but lately, doesn’t work at all, coming up with a box, saying that the demo version has expired. I am convinced it was never a demo version! This is a pain, because I did use it!
