...vertical grip available for the d70s?

I seem to remember seeing a piece in one of the magazines late last year that there was one being made, but I haven't seen or heard anything since.

Anyone got any ideas?

Theres a few of the above on the market...

If its extra battery life you're after then I guess they're "ok", but the vertical shutter release only works by setting the camera to IR shutter release mode. Completely removing the ability to half press the shutter release and focus / meter. Making the shutter release on the grip all but useless in any dynamic situation I'm afraid.

Also, you may be unpleasantly surprised at how "cheap and plasticy" these grips all are...they feel very thin and as if they might break at any moment.

I tried a few on my D70s and came away buying none.....

Seems very cheap as it includes two batteries.
The Nikon one for the D200 is about £140 and another £50 for the battery but you get duplicate camera controls and shutter release. Excelent bit of kit.
Why Nikon don't do one for the 50/70 beats me.

Colleague used one of these with tripod and it has ripped the mount out of the plastic - not great quality.

OK, thanks all for your input.

I browsed the customer reviews and stuff, and ended up going through Extansis for the Hahnel one.

It doesn't have a shutter release, but does give me the extra battery, and comes with two spare batteries which was what I was after more than the shutter release.

It also has the cradle to take AA batteries too, which is always useful.

While I haven't used it in anger yet, it seems reasonably built, and solid enough with the batteries installed and the whole camera feels better balanced with my longer lenses fitted.
