on Photography4all we have a "front end" which I have just redesigned and programmed with dreamweaver and made live.We use this to post news of the forum and have a taster so that people who want to get a feel of the forum without joining can look at.Its also used to show and display winners of various challenges too.We do put them on the forum proper but its nice to see them on what for P4A is a sort of shop window to attract new customers. Have you not thought of having that for PFO.The newsletter that Chris sends out could be an active part of the front end and it could be used to show this wonderful place to good advantage.I know I'm not the world's best at web design but I know there are people on here who are good(some of the guys have helped me with my own web page) and I am sure between us we could have one awesome front end for the forum.
One other thing that isnt something to make the forum more attractive but more along the practical lines is some way of making sure that bad or offensive posts can be deleted as soon as they appear.Many's the time that late at night theres often only me and Chaz or maybe Jayne on late at night(after 1 in the morning) and if something was posted at that time that was really bad-say porn or something(as has happened) we would not be able to get rid of it if it wasnt our section and at the wee small hours you dont want someone ringing you to say can you get on the forum etc...
we need to be able to bin any spamming activity as soon as it happens and if its not our section and nobody is around who is then we have to leave it there and send out a warning.
hope you didnt mind me saying about that and we could all still be in charge of certain sections but have the ability in an emergency to edit on any section like a global mod would have.
Just my 2p worth and no offence intended.

A way to get round this is to have any new posters with say less than 10 posts go into a Moderation queue, only Admin or Mods can see the new post(s) & they then approve the post or indeed if it`s spam delete & ban without the rest of the forum seeing it.Originally Posted by Kenny

Is there room on the Home page for both?
My suggestion is the image of the week on the top and IOTM below. It would, I feel, make for a stronger home page advertising, the quality inside and promote the comp as well to get more people voting on it.

that is exactly the reason we have a front end on P4A.It allows winners of both weekly and monthly challeges/comps to be showcased without disappearing down the posts and would be a fab addition to PFO.All our news and comps and bits that needed to be there all the time could be on full view permanantly for all to see.
As for the suggestion about the moderation queue,sounds a good idea but so would baving any mod having the ability to go into any section in an emergency to delete iffy posts.

I did know about the front page for the forum but tis not the kind of thing I meant.In my capacity as Admin on P4A it came to light that people thought the front end( a single page such as we have here) didnt quite cut it and so I set to work sorting a sort of fun front end with news,tasters and small rotating galley to give the forum some publicity.I'd put a link to P4A to show you what I mean but I respect this forum too much to appear to be pushing for members and so I wont but if people want to look for photography4allforum they will see what kind of thing I did with the front end.It has six pages of info and stuff to help promote the forum so that anyone coming across it is attracted( I hope) and maybe wish to join P4A.
though I dont think we have any problems in attracting members here-me fingers are worn to the bone saying hi to new members-I dont think the front page does us justice at all.This is a fab wonderful forum with amazing talent and even more fantastic togs there to inspire new members who might be wanting to take their first steps in togging but......the front page doesnt even come close to revealing what this place does.I honestly dont think the image of the month and a few posts do us justice.I'd like to see a mega front end set of pages with news,winners and other things so that anyone coming across it thinks....wow...that Photography-forum.org looks like my kind of place.It may well be that people are shy and by looking at that front end it might just put people at their ease and they join.It was my intention with doing it for photography4all anyway.
I really hope I did not offend in any way by voicing my opinion.I said it only because I love this forum as much as I love P4A and would only ever want the best for both of them.
