I have the non-D, but FANTASTIC LENS... highly recommended.

Does the "Distance" technology make a lot of difference to exposures etc? I.e. would swapping my non-D for D type be worth while when I get the D200?
I read on Ken Rockwells site that it doesn't do much - but he is rather opinionated!!
sorry to be thick but what is the difference between the D and non D model?
I'm presuming I could use this on my D40? (I know it won't auto focus but I'm saving up for a D90)

As Carmen says - D provides distance information - which can help. Either way this is the current model.

Yes it works on just about every Nikon made - as you say it wont AF on the D40.
