Resizing Images to post in Photoshop

Here are simple steps to resize your image to fit the forum using Photoshop.

Have you finished edit open in Photoshop then go to
    Image/Image Size:
    Untitled-1.jpg

Here is mine before changes, over 4000 pixels wide and 240DPI
    Untitled-2.jpg

Change the DPI first, to 72, then set the width (or height whichever is larger) to 800. The other value changes automatically:
    Untitled-3.jpg

    Then choose File/Save As:
    Untitled-4.jpg

Select JPEG from the options, and set the filename:
    Untitled-5.jpg

Use the quality slider by dragging it until the preview shows less than 175K, and click OK:
    Untitled-6.jpg

You now have a file ready for upload to the forum.

Resizing images in Paint Shop Pro 7

PSP 7 is a bit old now, but may still apply to later versions to a degree.
To show it's really the same procedure as above in pretty much all applications.

Have your image open and go to Image/Resize
    Untitled-1.jpg

First click to make pixel size active (if it is not already) and change largest number to 800. Click OK.
    Untitled-2.jpg

Now make Actual / Print Size active and set 72DPI as shown. Click OK:
    Untitled-3.jpg

    Go to file/Save As
    Untitled-4.jpg

Choose JPEG, set name, then click Options:
    Untitled-5.jpg

This is where PSP7 isn't as good as Photoshop. (newer versions may be more advanced).
I choose a compression setting from the slider and choose OK, then see what the filesize is and try again if too big or small. You could try the Optimiser, but I'm not convinced of it's 'goodness'.

How to re-size using a free program called Irfanview . Google it ,it is top of the page when you do .
I am assuming that you have downloaded and installed the program and its plugins and opened your picture in Irfanview and will get a screen similar to the one below .
    tut1.jpg

Next to re-size the picture physicaly to the forum limits click on Image , then resize/resample which will give you this window
    tut2.jpg

Simply type into the spaces the size you want the image to be , in our case I typed 800 in the width box ,the height sorts itself out .
    tut3.jpg

Next we want to reduce the file size . This is far easier than you might think . Simply click on File then choose the "save as" tab which will bring up this screen .
    tut4.jpg

Make sure the "set file size" is ticked and type in the file size you want ,in our case 170kb .
Click save and you are all done!
    Hope this helps.

Thumbs up Uploading photos using attachments.

    NEW FORUM SOFTWARE

I see more and more posts from new members stating(incorrectly) that they are not allowed to post pictures.
This thread is for them and it is easier to do than explain . Try it and you will see what I mean .

Firstly you will need to either start a new thread of your own or reply to an exisitng thread . If you do this using the "advanced " button arrowed in red below you are almost there .

    Clipboard01.jpg

This will give the following screen and you will need to click on the attachments icon that looks like a paperclip .

    Clipboard02.jpg

This will give the following , from here you need to click on the "Add files" button and then browse your computor for the image or images you wish to upload . Double click on them and they will appear in a list in the same box .
Please be aware there is a forum limit on file sizes , the longest side of any image cannot exceed 800 Px and the files size max is 170Kb .

    Clipboard03.jpg

Then just click on the "Upload files" button at the bottom of the box and your files will be uploaded to the forum .

    Clipboard04.jpg

Final step ! You will see that any files you have uploaded have now appeared at the bottom of the attachment box with a "tick" mark against them . To place them in your reply just click on "Insert Online" and then done .

    Clipboard05.jpg

Congratulations you have now posted your first Picture on the forum !
Let's see many more from you .

    Shane

Of course if people READ THE RULES when they join( sorry to shout but its been a stressful troll filled evening) we would have no problems. I now feel that Shane's illustrated post should be put in the rules and a reference made to them in the email that new members get telling them to READ THE RULES.... its okay Dotty..again I was within the 250 word limit per post lol
