    extreme beginner

So I'm really new to photography, granted I've always had an interest in the subject I've never had any desire to actually join those who take pictures, until now.

However, I have no idea where to start :(
So any advice and tips you could give me would be wonerful.
Also, can anyone recommend a good camera for a begginer and maybe any helpful books etc. that explain terms in a non too technical way in order for me to understand?

    Thank you

There are many types of cameras out there that you can start with but it all depends how serious you are about it, your budget and what types of photography you would like to do.

Am a beginner too and have been "practising" photography since i was 15, i am now 19 and i am still not creating the pictures i want too.
I started with a olympus sp 350 which i still have now and cant seem to part with it as even though it is a very difficult and annoying camera it can preform well

but this taught me the very basics of a point and shoot and gave me the ideas of what type of photography i wanted to do and i have moved on to bigger and better.
I cant help you alot but just to give you an insight of how i started, i am now creating pictures like this

These are from my Sony DSLR A350

Hmm, my budget would probably be around £400 and definately no more than £500 new from a shop atm, I don't mind second hand cameras from amazon or ebay as well as maybe new ones from there if I can find them cheaper.

At the moment I would like to just do it because I am interested in the subject, if i develops into something in the future then that would be lovely.

hi and welcome to the forum.

If you're ok with 2nd hand then loads to choose from, canons and nikons too. something well within your budget would be canon 350D etc.

Try to pick a brand and stick to it (if you're buying an SLR). If I were you, I would buy a cheap, basic dSLR and see how you like it. I started off with the Nikon D40 and thought it was an excellent camera.

As said something like a nikon D40 would be an ideal learners camera, or maybe even a D70 thet can be had for around £250 with the 18-70mm lens, that would leave another £200 + for a few accessories such a tripod, memory card etc depending on the type of photography you want to pursue

buy a used dslr off ebay - spend no more than £200.

go out take pictures - see what you like.

do a course - I recommend Terry Hewlett at Photography Workshops in Wiltshire

don't rush - enjoy the art!

    best
