What sort of night sport?
Is it floodlit?
Hi i'm new to the forum and i am looking for some information on night sports photography. I have tried loads of equations with no success, i have a Sony A380 with a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens and i have tried shots with all different settings. If i have a high iso then there is too much noise, if i use a sports mode then the figures are blurred, any info would be greatly apprciated.

Shutter priority, ISO auto between 100 and 800/1200, 1/60th second shutter speed, mount the lens on a monopod.
yes football matches
Thanks when you say ISO auto btween 100/8001200 please can you explain a little more simple term.
If your camera has an auto ISO mode, set it so the minimum shutter speed is 1/60th of a second, and either a max ISO of 800 or 1200, depending on what your camera can handle.
Another setting I used to use a lot, was manual mode, with a base level shutter speed of 1/60th (never dropping below that) and leaving the F-stop at F:/2.8, balancing manually the exposure by increasing the ISO speed depending on the light available so it is over exposing the image, then just fine tuning the speed on the shutter by increasing the speed to bring the exposure to normal levels. It would be best to do this before the game kicks off, as otherwise you wouldn't have chance to mess with parameters once the game is underway.
The 70-200, though, may not be long enough reach to get the action in reasonable size from the other side of the centerline though.

Just one thought, are you shooting in jpeg or RAW?
