    Cannon 10 - 22 Vs Sigma 10 -20

Right.... so I love my kit lens.. but now Christmas is done I can start to save for my next purchase, a new lens, it will either be the Canon 10-22mm or the Sigma 10-20mm.

    My question is:

The price difference between the 2 is about £200 (just under), I have read and heard great reviews on both of these lenses but is the difference in price for the canon worth it?

    Opinions appreciated.

Not being a Canon user, I can only repeat what I have heard. They should be of the same quality. Paul will be around shortly to prove me wrong, I assume.

Well to be honest, I bought the canon 10 - 22 after using the sigma lens for a while (I borrowed it from a friend for 6 months to try before I bought!). The canon lens felt sturdier and less "plasticaly". I also took two images of the same thing (lake in lake district) and I felt the canon lens did a better job of capturing the moment (have looked for the two but cant find them sorry!).

The second reason I bought the canon over the sigma is that someone said to me that after they had upgraded their canon 400D to a 7D they noticed the flaws in their cheaper sigma lenses. Obviously I dont know if that did or didnt include the 10 -20 (the lady in question def had one in her kit bag!) but that was also a point worth considering

Purely my thoughts, which may be out of kilter with everyone else - I usually am!

How often will you need to go below 20/22? Probably not very often outdoors. How often will you be needing that really wide angle indoors? Just asking. I had a Sigma 10-20, but have just sold it because I found that I hardly ever used it. Got my money back - they hold their value. My normal lens is a 24-105, and at the 24 end is wide enough for most of what I do. On the odd occasion that it's not then I cheat and stitch a couple together. Only you can answer if you need one, but there appears to be little if any difference in quality and saving a few hundred is usually reckoned to be the best option.

Remember - opinions on lenses are like arseholes - everyone has one and they are all different!!!

A lot on here including myself use the Sigma 10-20mm and are happy with it, I know Steve (Tenchy) uses the Canon 10-22mm and he is happy also, the Sigma though continually wins reviews for value, image quality and build, its like everything else a bit subjective but imo the saving can be put to good use, ie filters, tripods, accessories, etc.
The perfect photograph has never been captured but I will chase this elusive dream even if it takes me 1/60 sec.

The siggy is a good lens, though I'm a bit like Frank (mickledore) when it comes to it. I borrowed the one from the office to test it to see if it was worth my money on it, and found that I wasn't really using it to above the usual wide/zoom I use.

It's a bit of a specific lens, and unless you are planning on shooting massive landscapes, like Tenchy, then you may feel a bit cheated with it. Best thing to do would be to try and borrow one, and the Canon to see if they fit what you are looking for in a lens before you drop large on one.
