    Goddamnit long exposure!

So, a few weeks ago, i tried one of my first long exposures, in the bulb mode (nikon D90). I used a cheap remote (£2 on offer, hehe), and everything worked fine. One click on the remote to start it, and one to end it.

However, after some time, i had to actually hold the button down, or it would just take a picture of an exposure of 1/2 or something.

After some MORE time, it doesn't even work anymore. When i set the shutter release on "w/ remote", and twist the exposure all the way after 30" (sometimes only lets me 10", no idea why), and after that, instead of giving me BULB, it simply shows " -- ". when i change the shutter release on single (by pressing the button), it does let me use BULB. when back on remote, it doesn't.

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I presume you are dialling in your exposure time on the remote - I have only used the manual ones where I have to depress and lock in for bulb mode

It would help if you added a photo of the remote as we can only guess
