ah that makes sense.
It's probably set up like that to not exceed the 32 bit OS limit of 2gb file sizes.
Not an issue on 64 bit.

Follow this link to the full .pdf manual for your camera see the bottom of page 119. Although a 8bg card will hold up to 35mins of movie footage at 1280, the camera automatically stops recording when a movie reaches 2gb or 15 mins, so my guess is that, at 1280, in the 9 mins that you were recording you reached the 2gb limit and the camera stopped recording......Can you not just hit the record button again to start another 9 minute session and stitch the movies together with software on your PC?

Hi the 8gb card in the manual is an SDHC one, I take it they can somehow take more video ?

The camera will stop recording after 2gb or 15 mins, whichever comes first, whatever memory card you use and whatever quality you record in. But you will still have room for more video on the card, on my old S1600 (which had the same limitations) I just started a new recording when it stopped and stitched them together after transferring to my lappy.
