If the antibiotics work then it's not a virus! It is annoying. They never test you these days...they should do a throat swab.
So, I've been in bed since monday, my throat and neck and joints have all swelled up, any kind of movement is painful, swallowing is really painful (got white lumps on my throat now) dizziness sickness disorientation eyes burning etc etc etc, and I finally managed to get to the doctors today as it's not got any better. I thought possibly glandular fever or severe tonsillitis, I've had both of these before... glandular fever is not nice at all, and tonsillitis... well, I use to get this every year, and it didn't really bother me, but this is way worse, hence the "severe" attachment, lol.
Anyway, doc saw me for all of 30 secs, said it was a virus which has caused all the swelling and also caused severe tonsillitis. So, I said, basically you don't know what it is then? And she answered no, there's so many viruses out there it's impossible to keep track. She gave me a prescription for antibiotics and sent me on my way with the final words: they might work, but they might not.
I am seriously getting fed up with the BS answer "it's a virus". This is the 3rd time this year I've had a "virus" and every time I'm sent on my way with the same solution that antibiotics probably won't work but we'll prescribe you some in case they do!
I suppose the only good thing to come out of it so far is that I've lost a little over a stone since monday morning......

Its really frustrating isnt it - and also its not good to just keep giving blanket coverage of anti b's, you can end up having a resistance to them! In women they supply a lot of unwelcome side affects like thrush - dont know if men get the same.
I was given antibiotics for a water infection a while back - the doc hadnt got the results of the test just prescribed a blanket coverage. I went and got the prescription and paid the £7.60 or whatever it is now. The doc then rang me 3 days later to say that he had given me the wrong anti b's for the strain of infection I had!! So new prescription and another £7.60!!!

Hope you get better soon Jim, i try to avoid the docs as much as possible as i dont trust them these days after they tried to get me to take statins when i did'nt need them.
If its any concellation doctors not knowing is about to cost me about £3200. My wife got ill while on holiday ended up in ICU. They run butt loads of tests and kept her 3 days, and they came back and said they had no idea what was wrong. We thought nothing of it, she was better and the insurance was covering the bill. Just found out the insurance company are claiming that this was all related to pre existing condition and are now refusing to pay. Gotta love insurance companies.
I need some big photog jobs!! Lol!
Oh and hope u feel better soon!
My view of doctors these days is they are CARP.
Past 60 it seems their view is "Hurry up and die, you're costing us time and money"
