I bought a Sigma 150-500 a few years ago and it's in great nick having only used it a handful of times. But it's sitting in the cupboard gathering dust. I've just kept it there thinking I'd rather keep it than sell it for less than half what I paid for it.. but now I think the money would be far more useful. Although it pains me I know I'm not going to get that much for it but can anyone make any recommendations as to the best way to get maximum value when I sell it, where to advertise etc? I'd prefer to sell locally than have to arrange postage for the costs and risks that involves. Thanks in advance.

It's Nikon fit. I've had quotes from a few trade in things but they're expectedly pretty low.

Wex/MBP have offered in region of £330.. I paid well over twice that!! Itd 3d Ani W60 Smiles 051 If I could get £500 I'd love that but that's probably unrealistic :(

I think with the introduction of the 150-600mm lenses you will really struggle to get £500 for it.

I would go via Ebay but that can be a bit fraught although in just under 1,000 trades I haven't had an issue myself...

just flogged my Bronica stuff for about 360 and it was painless .....well except for the box packing :)

Disappointing, isn't it? Similar figures for me.

From memory that's about what I received on eBay a few weeks ago.

Yeah I used to use eBay by default but stopped because I was fed up of the fees. I might resort back to it as I always did find stuff would go for what it was worth even if you started the listing at 99p. I used to give my husband kittens because I would never put a reserve on high end stuff!!

After you've taken the commission off any eBay you'd be needing about a £400 sale price to match the MPB offer. Having a quick look at completed items on eBay they're around the £380 mark so it seems like a reasonable offer from MPB.

Unfortunately once lenses are superseded it does knock their s/h value

I sell my used equipment to a camera retailer that also sells used equipment. I get less than selling it directly, however I get no hassles - when it is sold it is done and gone.

There's a London Camera Exchange in town. I wonder what they'll offer.

if your on faceache you could try some of the UK photography trading websites.. ive sold a few things on those with no problems as long as you stick by certain rules in regard to payment. ive also sold on shpock too ( the local bootsale app ) in fact sold the oh dslr on there.. local buyer , came round, all tested,, payment done via paypal as we chatted.. and transferred straight into my account.. done under family and friends so no comeback too and no fees.. shpock certainly worth a go and you can easily get a cash buyer too.

Interestingly I did another quote through Wex with this lens and another in the hope that I could swap for a 70-200 f2.8 and they've offered an extra £90 for the Sigma this time around! Definitely worth trying again if you aren't happy with the price first time.
