More playing with the new tools in Photoshop, this time the select sky tool which seems to make superb selections. Again, this was an experiment to see what could be twiddled with.

First I take the original edit from LR into PS

Then in PS use the select>sky tool to select the sky on a copy of the original layer. With this I made 4 more copies, two curve adjustment layers and two colour balance layers. On one of each I used CTRL+I to invert the selection to the bird. I could then in a non-destructive way play with adjustments on the bird and sky separately. Bear in mind, this is the first time I have played with adjustment layers so I have probably gone a bit OTT

It works pretty well, the exposure on the bird needs to be adjusted as it doesn't really match the light. Otherwise, nice images.

I think it works well. I like what you did with the colours.

I actually screwed up the exposure on the bird and exposed for the sky. The owl was almost 4 stops under exposed. Amazed really that I managed to push it as far as I did to get the detail, especially with a Canon 7D2.

Thanks Mike,

I think the sky select tool is going to come in handy much more than the sky replacement tool.
