Killing time while my partner was in a meeting this afternoon I decided to go shoot some of the architecture in the science park next to her hospital. Never before have I been hounded by security for taking pictures the way I was today. I made sure I stuck to public footpaths to shoot these but I was approached by 4 different security personnel and one MOD representative. They all wanted to know what exactly I thought I was doing taking photographs of their buildings to which I replied for my own enjoyment and portfolio. The MOD guy even went so far as to ask to see some of the shots to make sure I wasn't zooming into the windows of a building I didn't even know was a MOD research facility until he let it drop while questioning me. No one told me to quit(as I wasn't technically doing anything wrong) so I kept snapping away although I found it quite amusing that the entire time I walked around this park all the little PTZ cameras kept tracking me as I went.

Thanks Tony, considering the front of the building states it is a molecular biology research center and its run by the MOD I reckon some scary stuff goes on inside that building.

Cheers Mark, wish it wasn't as flat a sky in some of them as the reflections of the clouds in the glass can look pretty interesting in different conditions.

Thanks Marc!

Thanks Mike, these are science buildings that are popping up all around Addenbrooks hospital.
Easy to sort the sky Ryan...:)
Yeah but not to get the reflections of the clouds in the glass, only works from certain angles at specific times of day to get the comps right. Photoshopping the clouds into the windows and making it look real is waaay beyond my skills set. :)

Wow , that's a lot of glass, want a job as a window cleaner. Great shots Ryan , they look quite sinister don't they and that much security must be some sensitive stuff going on inside them. Sounds like things have changed a bit at Addenbrookes since i had a spell there in 2016, the new papworth hospital was under construction then.

I love them all Ryan. Great lines throughout and well done for seeing the potential for what you have presented. The colours are very good also. I do have one thing that I'd like to mention: IMHO the B&W may look more interesting by lifting the highlights, bringing out the contrasts and adding a little drama to the sky. I have done some work on it and if you want to see, just let me know. I love working with B&W and giving them some punch. Cheers, Greg.

You would never run out of work that's for sure... The entire area has become much more built up with lots of construction everywhere. I have since found out that the glass building everyone I spoke to thought was going to be a business convention center is actually going to be a huge AstraZeneca facility. There are also lots of other sites which have been fenced off so I expect quite a lot more building is on its way, the entire place is turning into a mini science city made of glass and metal. Makes for some interesting photography opportunities.

Cheers Kayak, they were friendly enough science police although I'm sure hiding is not an option as I have surely been added to some gov database by now anyway... ;)

Thanks Greg, as always feel free to have at them. I too thought b&w would suit them and did experiment myself but would love to see what you come up with. I uploaded a few to my flickr page which I believe can be downloaded at 1600px if you wanted to use a larger file to edit.

I had a play with a version of #2 which is actually a pano of portrait oriented images. I had set up to create a pano/ hdr monstrosity but hadn't gotten around to processing all the HDR shots for the pano when I posted this thread.

The below version is the HDR pano but in mono which has a much more interesting and moody sky.

Great pictures, some remind me of I . Asimov novels. The last one might be Trantor...

Sorry Ryan, I was talking about #5 B&W image when I mentioned the edits. Nice work on #2, I like the B&W - I think you have the shades about right. This is what I mean by lifting the highlights, bringing out the contrasts and adding a little drama to the sky. I like to brighten the lights without losing detail. I use various methods. 1. Adding a B&W adjustment layer and playing with the sliders. 2. Calculations method. 3. Gradient Maps. This one is a combination 1 and 3.

Thanks, I can see what you mean.

Nice edit Greg, that does make the towers stand out a lot more and gives the sky a more menacing feel.
