Just found this in the back of the wardrobe.

Forgot I'd even got it.

Must put a roll through it, for old times sake. :)

Don't know if it's worth anything.

G'day mate

The ol' FT 605 with the 500mm MTO lens ..... would have been a beaut combo "back in the days.............."
Maybe shoot a roll and show us some results!

The lens is a Hanimex HMC 500mm "CAT" lens.

I have a 2x converter, which allows me to go to 1000mm.

I took some lovely lunar shots, back then.

Amazing to think my FinePix will zoom past that, with its built in lens.

G'day mate

Whether 'Catadioptric' or 'Mirror Telephoto Optic' -- they were all the rage back in the 60s and 70s.
Mine was a 1000mm F11 job that did service for wildlife and some landscape stuff from time to time

Yeah matey ... the big change in today's beaut zooms is the quality of autofocus. Back then, zooms were generally restricted to 3x zoom range, and users were advised to zoom to maximum, focus, then unzoom a bit to frame the image, knowing that depth of field at the lesser zoom position would cover any focus shift. But beyond 3x to 4x zoom, this focus shift became a problem

With today's really beaut autofocus abilities, zooms can (and are in some cases) h-u-g-e- in their coverage. Personally, I stick with a max of about 20x zoom so that other optical issues do not become intrusive

I gave my Meade C97e 1000mm F11 Mirror Lens to a friend to use on a custom IR camera. They had bought a $4000 Nikon Nano-Coated spotting scope to use, only to find the lens coatings killed of 99% of the light at the wavelength they needed. Handed them the 1000/11 Meade with the camera adapter, worked perfectly and saved their project. $200 vs $4000. They were happy!
