Are they trying to clear out what is doing to be a obsolete EOS system?

If I had to buy an new camera, I'd go mirrorless. I don't think it makes sense buying into a system that is being fazed out. It's sort of like buying a brand new film camera in the year 2000. Mind you I was still using my film camera in the year 2000.

I may add here- a local Tog was all excited getting his new 5ds recently.
And no, not at this price.
I am curious if B&H will refund the difference.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the EOS, 5D S/Rs. If someone gave me a new 5D Mk iv i'll take it!

Somehow I don't think those savings are going to filter through to our side of the pond. I remember a couple years ago looking a 6d2 in sales and they were going for about $1k in the US while over here we were looking at closer to £2k.
Not sure I am sold on the RF system, anyone here used a mirrorless for macro? I would imagine the response time with the digital viewfinder would make them a pig to work with doing handheld stuff. Could be wrong though as I have never had a chance to try one.

I'm not against anything new, however- when i go out i like the familiar. That was/is my #1 reason staying with an eos. Instinct timing in moments. Times when you know you have split second decisions. Subjects tend to move on regardless how tolerant they are.

Certainly doesn't look like it hinders him at all, the R series must be a slight step up from the live view in my 10 year old bridge... :D

The 5 DS is donkeys years old now and it's iso performance is terrible. Awesome for good light landies, portraiture and studio work but not much of an all rounder.

I have a 5DSR which I use purely for studio and portrait work ..... mostly animals, some people, some still life and other things, and for that it’s a brilliant camera. It’s a fussy beast, for sure, but brilliant in the right application. I don’t think it was ever intended to be an all rounder, use it for everything type camera, to be fair. I use a 5DIII for sports work and a 6D in low light.

Looking at the mirror less bodies now, of course, but wincing a bit at the cost of trading my existing collection of gear for a whole new system.

Always the way, once new tech comes out our pride and joy is suddenly worth next to nothing. For all I do I still can't see any reason to compell me away from my D850's. I do like the wysiwyg EVF on my X-T2 but it's simply not enough of a reason to change for me.

I got to use an R5 and an R6 last week. For macro I did feel you needed the 120hz mode on the EVF, but that does eat batteries a bit faster. Still hoping for a crop version of the R5 as I prefer crop for macro and for reach limited stuff.

Oh, and I bought an EOS3 in 2000
