G'day all

End of Spring season, the start of the Summer months - harvesting time - the paddocks are busy with farmers checking growth and moisture levels, and booking the contractors, the blokes and their machinery, and trucks aplenty to cart the grains to the silos and rail centres.

Wheat - soon ready for the harvesting machinery

One of the many machines seen across the paddocks

Panny FZ-200; 1/1000s x F4,0; 14x zoom / 350mm FFequiv; ISO-100

At a grain receiving centre in the next town we stopped at, I chatted to one of the operators about their side of the harvest - to be told that "yesterday we took 1000 tonnes of wheat, from one paddock on one farm and that paddock still has 1/3- to go until empty. They expect that farm to deliver 3,500 tonnes of wheat over 3-days of harvesting".

As always, feedback welcome
Phil

Nice shots. I assume the wheat is what we call "winter wheat" planted in the autumn?

It is late spring, so harvesting wheat now would have been planted earlier.
G'day Don

I'm not a farmer but ............. I presume this stuff was planted in June/July, has been rained on and sunshined on ( ! ) for the last 3-4 months and is now bursting with happiness in late November / December

So it was planted in your winter. A bumper crop may lower prices, so that may not be so happy in the end. Of course for export it may keep the price up.

G'day Don

A bumper crop and lowered prices are not our only worries at the moment
Over the years China has become our biggest customer for many goods, however after our Prime Minister suggested the world needs to examine the C-19 issues from start to today, the Chinese gov't has rebuffed Aussie exports left-right-and-centre

We now have 200% tarrifs -or- excuses about 'quality' on wine + barley + wheat + coal + fresh food airfreighted direct and the list goes on
It has become a major embarrassment for us asking a single question regarding a planet-wide pandemic

Just lovely. There's a wonderful feeling to late Spring, early summer as life picks up again.

What I wouldn't do to be down under right about now. It's proper winter here, little day light, very cold - just horrible and drab with no leaves really left on the trees. Hideous actually. There is even talk of snow...yuck.

Right now Oz, NZ, SA, South America are all basquing in summer and I am jealous.

Nice bright photos, and it makes us very envious here is a cold/cool dank dark environment. And we can't escape this year to Oz or Hawaii either. But the glass is half full, we are alive and healthy, and will be able to travel (hopefully) in the future...and lucky to be able to afford do so...:)

We had snow all day yesterday, but not too much stayed. Just enough to cover the grass.
I hate snow unless it is on mountain tops.

If I had all the money in the world I would spend our winters in the Southern Hemisphere and our summers well, up here so I'd get 2x summers every year and 2x autumns. Patagonia about now seems very appealing :D

Lucky git. :D
It's slowly creeping down the mountains here, some expected at lower levels the next coming days. Hoping for a massive dump this year.
