I'm going to put the cat amongst the pigeons here...

I've got one of these (and have had it for about 3 years) and it's actually a chinese import that can be found on ebay for less than £100 these days. It looks to me like Manfrotto have just bought a ton of them and stuck their label on it and hiked up the price.

It's a fabulous tripod, folds up to next to nothing but is amazingly sturdy at full height and handled my D800 with the 24-70 easily in calm conditions. It's a fab travel tripod and even @tenchy was impressed with it. I just don't believe in paying through the nose if you don't have to.

Yes, it does look like a Q-666C, or similar, model.

Mine is labelled as a Triopo GT-2505X8C but I'd bet good money that it came of the same production line as both the 666 and the OP version just with a different sticky label on it.

I've been looking at this one but was worried I needed to pay a bit more for quality, would you disagree?

It's a really great travel tripod. Is it as stable as my series 4 Gitzo, of course not, but it still comes on holiday with me when I don't have enough luggage allowance to taje the beast and I have some very sharp long exposure shots taken with it.

Not much of a risk for £78 so I've ordered one.....

I have the Q-666 aluminum. It is pretty good. I have taken it to Mexico with be twice and it has been a very good travel tripod.

One thing to take into consideration is that the Manfrotto Tripods come with a 2 year standard warranty which can be extended by 3 years to a 5 year warranty for free.

A 100% markup sounds like a lot to justify that though....

I think the manufacturer is Sirui (Guandong Sirui Optical); they make a right plethora of photography related things and generally run with a six year warranty on the top as well.

    Hi,

I presume the tripod arrived? What did you think?

It did, after only three days from ordering.

The tripod is fine - well constructed, and very light. It won't win any prizes for stability in high winds, but that's the compromise of course. It will also easily fit inside airline hand luggage.

I'm very happy with it as a travel option.

Thank you for the feedback. I was looking at various 'travel' tripods on Saturday at the Cameraworld Live show in London. Took a liking to a Benbro but it was one of the few items that couldn't be bought there and then. Travelling home I remembered this thread. I think what I was looking at was almost identical. Will give it a punt!
