    Hi All-

It's been cold and dead around here so I got a new toy to cure the winter blues. I've always wanted to try editing with a tablet and saw a good deal on the small Wacom Intuos for only $65. It's not the big fancy one, but I figured it would be a perfect starting point. I'll let you all know how it goes.

    Cheers 20190110_204357.jpeg

Hey Steve! Long time no talk. I'll be honest, about 30 minutes into editing I almost wrapped it back up and sent it back to amazon haha. But, I realized I could use my mouse and the pen interchangeably so I realized for cloning, adjustment brush, grad filters it's awesome, and for scrolling and selecting photos I'll just use the mouse. I'll give it another few days.

yes deffo. I could NOT go tablet only like some. but I pull it out for selections etc. and for doing quick sketches too, very handy for that.

And yes long time! nice to 'see' you again

my tablet has stopped working since upgrading my OS and I'm really missing it, takes some getting used to but they are great. i particular like tablets for dodging and burning and other similar painterly effects

I know, but the new dark mode was too tempting...

was a bad move though as loads of stuff seems to be unsupported now.

Wacom Bamboo, they stopped supporting that one. Also color munki doesn't seem to have a new driver yet either :(

My Colour Munki Smile works, same drivers. I contacted support, but I stupidly deleted the emails, and they had me remove, clean out leftovers and do a clean install.

Had another few days with it and now I can't put it down haha. It blends in to the workflow nicely once you know it's limits.

Yeah its a great additional tool, rather than a replacement for the mouse.

They are great like that; one thing I find though is I'll end up using both the mouse and pen in unison (mouse in the left hand covering basics like zooming, brush size adjustments, etc, and the pen in the right), takes a bit of getting used to but it adds a lot of extra fluidity in to adjustments.

This is exactly how I use it. I use both in tandem and it makes for a smooth flow.

I have tried to do this, except the opposite hands, I cannot get the hang of it and my tablet sits mostly unused :(

My other half is a leftie and can't get around the tablet at all; I don't know whether it's something to do with having to learn to write backwards compared to a right handed person but she tried a pad for a couple of days and just couldn't get on with it at all.

I never kept with it enough, I am sure. If I really make an effort I am sure I will get it, eventually.

Yeah, with anything it's just practise; took me perhaps six months to get the hang of it properly.

I love my Wacom. It does have a learning curve but it's so worth it. Check out the free tutorials on phlearn.com. Aaron Nace is a great teacher.

funny this thread has popped up again.

since my last post I have fixed my tablet problem.

I have invested in an intuos pro (medium)

Very happy with it so far. Need to suss out how assign the buttons still. but the pressure responsiveness is fantastic, great bit of kit.
