New Yongnuo 50 mm f/1.8 II

    The first version offered by far the best quality vs. price ratio of any lens ever released.

    I shall watch this'un with interest.

    Glad to see them with a design what is not a rip-off of Canon. Competition is good just not thrilled with China's lax intellectual property enforcement - theft.

    Oh I agree with you there.

    Something I have seen mentioned elsewhere is that the 'original' 1989 Canon optics were a wholesale clone of an existing lens to begin with, some have surmised maybe that's why Canon themselves have been especially quiet on this issue.

    In some respects the mk1 Yongnuo is a better overall package than at least a mk2 Canon 50mm f1.8 and does appear sharper wide open in comparison, it also adds more blades.

    I think it's such an ancient, and low-end lens Canon may have just let that one go.

    To be honest, I wouldn't panic too much if I was Canon, whilst I agree essentially the Canon design was stolen, it probably generated sales for Canon in the long-run.
