I did not notice when I took the photo that this racoon appears to be blind in one eye.

Bloody cataracts! I'm really surprised at how many Raccoons I have seen over the years with cataracts.

Bloody cataracts! I'm really surprised at how many Raccoons I have seen over the years with cataracts.
I was not sure what it was, never seen a eye on an animal look blue like that.

must be a bugger for wild animals to cope with mono vision, for safety and getting food etc

The eye is an unusual colour Don, but it's a pretty blue! My opthamologist told me that after losing an eye your brain adjusts and manages very well. I still have 2 (thanks to him) so I can't say for sure and I don't think I want to put it into practice ;)

It is a nice blue. Somewhat related, my father in law had cataract surgery on one eye yesterday and will have the other eye done in a few weeks. They predict he will not need his distance glasses anymore.
