This Australian Pelican (Pelecanus conspicillatus) was doing some strange stretching exercises as I went by. Just had to get some shots.

#1 - One legged wing stretch.

#2 - Throat pouch drop and stretch.

#3 - Top bill raiser with a throat pouch expander.

#4 - Top bill drop onto expanded throat pouch

#5 - I hope you all enjoyed my little workout - Now I'm all done - it's now back to work!

Nice shots. The ones I have seen here have kept a frustrating distance from me.

Cheers Sundar. The Aussie ones can be very friendly once they have settled in to their patch.

The guys over here just move away at the first sight of humans nearby.

You'll have to feed them some nice fresh food. They love fish and they will learn to love you too :)

    Geez Isac

As another Downunder-er you should know that all Aussie Pelicans are enrolled in the Peli-Pilates daily exercise regime :)
They even occasionally pop into the water and swim too - they train the Aussie Olympic swimming team ready for the paddle-like-mad events

Cheers Phil. I wish I could bend like that. Life could be so much different !

Thanks David, I agree, they are a weird bird and although they are huge they seem to have a real gentleness about them.

Cheers John. I'm happy that I saw this weird thing going on, I've never seen it before. I appreciate your comment.
Thanks Stephen. They say a picture paints a thousand words, but I like to add a few of them to tell my side of the story :)

Thanks for that Ryan. Very much appreciated. If I had the time I'd sit and watch these birds all day.
