Fine by me.

Think Rule 20 applies to the Critique Corner Forum which is now closed. That's why the Prefix system is now in place.

Everyone else seems to post with this prefix and break Rule 20.

Ahhh I see, so if you add the prefix of no critique required what comment do you expect?

Only nice ones perhaps? Just joking:getmecoat:

Any comments welcome good, bad or whatever, I just don't expect a detailed response that's all.

Looks good Dave, and out of the box thinking. I could just like it or say "Nice", both of which I have done...

Nice...:D

Thanks. I just noticed it lying on the window sill yesterday and took a quick pic.
I agree the small jpg rule on here does restrict what's possible.

I'm not a fan of the new prefixes .... much prefer the old ones.

So, now Rule 20 has been modified as per your comments. Any thoughts or suggestions?

20. All images are submitted to the Forum for the purposes of photographic critique unless otherwise stated by the OP. If you ask for critique you should not be offended if replies are sometimes harsh. We're all here to learn. If however, you are just here for "likes" and "nice photo" comments then please do not be offended if you get no replies to your thread.

I have replied via a report to the admins which I hope is private.
Really don't understand all this - and would welcome clarification, seriously have the lawyers taken over?

There is a forum resource
https://www.photography-forum.org/threads/a-newbie-guide-about-thread-prefixes.161180/
which explains about forum prefixes for critique.

Just as a rule of thumb:
No critique required (as this thread is marked)
As I says no critique required I can't actually say anything
This is correct, if it is so marked , you can’t critique it
Critique isn't banned just not required that's all:grin:
Actually, critique is banned on a thread marked as ‘no critique required’

If you want critique on your images, you must use the prefix ‘full critique’

It was changed on the forum to placing a prefix in order to (as members had pointed out) the lack of comments on threads that members post.

The mods will endeavour to remind people who comment on a ‘just sharing’ prefix posted thread that is given critique on the forum, for example, you are out of focus/the subject needs placing more to the right in the pic etc that the thread prefix doesn’t allow that.
However, although we will endeavour to do this, not every moderator can be on forum 24 hours a day………….

Just had a look at the "All Other Images Forum" the majority of the posts with the prefix "no critique required|" do have comments so why are they not being picked out? If people don't want comments then why post in the first place? Perhaps the prefix should be "just sharing" as it makes it clearer IMHO. Fail to see how having a prefix saying no critique is required will create more comments tbh.

Agreed that prefix won’t, it’s just the ‘general’ adding of prefixes. Some prefixes give members a ‘safety net’ from critique, which is what some members feel safe from.

Just having had a quick look at all other images, I think the thing about comments in those particular threads is that there aren’t any negative comments on those marked ’ No critique required’. If we moderated everything - even a comment ‘I like you picture’ is a form of critique, lots of threads would have to be moderated/comments removed. I would agree about why do people post if they don’t want comments, but not everyone can take harsh critique, or indeed any negative critique.

Only nice ones perhaps? Just joking:getmecoat:

You have superseded your thread prefix you placed with your comment here

A kaleidoscope of colours there.

And of multicoloured views about the critique button.

For what it's worth, I'd much prefer nothing for a header or preferably, as Paul says, just an optional "Go Easy on me" if required so then people are free to post critique or not or make a remark or not. I feel a header asking for critique is going to put some off even commenting as - *in my opinion* - the more advanced photographers will probably not bother and the beginners might feel out of their depth. It's a little like internet traders wanting your 5* rating so they email you for it and remind you that you've not given them a rating. It's all rather pushy.

I seem to remember about 10 years ago that it was a free for all and all photographs could be subjected to critique - if you didn't want it you didn't post. Most posters in those days knew whether someone probably wanted critique or not without having to tread on eggshells. Also, it was extremely rare that someone was particularly rude about a photograph. Various members were banned for behaviour but not for appalling critique remarks.

Dougie posted fantastic portraits and loved the little bits of detail that people found because although he was extremely good, he wanted to keep improving. Sometimes when no one posted any remarks he knew he'd got to the standard he was aiming for. Just before I joined there were a few wedding photographers and they gave picky critique aimed at each other but all with the object of improving. As for Jen and me, we were new members and were only too grateful for all the help we received. It was gentle at first and yes, occasionally it hurt, but we were prepared to keep trying and became better for it. I've mentioned Dougie, Jen, myself and there were others, because members knew we weren't frightened or put off by remarks and because we responded members knew we were happy with receiving critical remarks.

Other members, however, were more easily offended (that's too strong a word) so we knew not to be so strong with our remarks or try to word them differently.

Ironically, back in those days if everyone said "Nice photo" or similar to someone who'd just joined the forum, everyone knew that was just being polite about an image that was anything but excellent! :D

In summary, I did like the Go Easy on me tag reinstated and feel that's all that's needed.

I agree a Go Easy on me tag would be way more positive.
I have only been here just over a year so still the new guy I guess but the current Rule 20 method, which my post fell foul of yesterday, is being ignored by many including some admins!

@wornish You have again posted for the second time today on other peoples threads about this subject of rule 20. If you read again my reply to you above, you will see that in the last part of my second reply that I quoted what you had said yourself which superceded the thread prefix you put. Since you have been a member, you have continued to try niggle away at everything on forum over a period of time, disrupting the forum. You never seem to read replies made to you properly, and It has now got to the point where it can no longer be tolerated. As such, have a three day period away from the forum to reflect on things.

Seems a bit harsh. Wornish is a very knowledgeable photographer, and would be a loss to the forum. He is only highlighting oddities, personally I have never heard of Rule 20. I never read the instruction...:D
