I have some unused vintage flash bulbs that I'd like to repurpose into Christmas ornaments. Is it safe for me to pierce holes in the base of the bulbs so that I can attach a wire to hang them? Will the magnesium/oxygen simply dissipate or am I attempting something dangerous? Thank you in advance for any advice.

There is a vacuum inside and the shape of the glass stops them from imploding, so I wouldn't advise it.

Thank you Skyshot. I will heed your advice and instead, pass them onto someone who will use them in the way they were meant to be used.

I would not do it- there is also the chance that a static charge sets them off. With a hole poked in them- they can explode.

Put them on Ebay, or sell them to a film enthusiast.

Thank you, BrianS. Yes, I will pass them on to someone who can use them.
