Hi all,

Wife and kids are out of town visiting family, so I got to go explore the mountains for the weekend. I headed out to Smoky Mountain National Park for some hiking and photography. One morning, I woke up and drove to an overlook within the park hoping for a vibrant sunrise. Instead, I was met with the dense fog that this park is famous for. For almost an hour I waited for there to be some break in the clouds; it was so thick you couldn't see more than 20 feet in any direction. Eventually, the fog lifted enough to provide a stunning view of the mountains around me. I snapped about a million photos (also did timelapse) and left when the fog once again covered everything and it started raining. Nothing like being the only photographer in an area like this, on a quiet morning!

Here is one of my favorites from the day. Hope you enjoy.

I find this sort of image is lost when presented so small. I can image it has a lot of depth and mood to it viewed as it should be..BIG

Cheers Steve- hope you're doing well! It was very atmospheric. Super windy, wet and cool. One of those places that you close your eyes and take some deep breaths.

Fair enough- here's a larger version if you're interested.

It's beautiful and breathtaking in the full size Chris. It's pretty much how I remember those 6AM runs from Atlanta to Knoxville back in the day.

That is a stunning shot Chris. The mist, light, and mood really come together here. I agree with the others, it needs to be big to be appreciated properly.

Thanks Roger! I love driving through the area... I just wish people would slow down.

Thanks David. My only (sort of) regret is that I shot this as part of a timelapse and changed my image size to RAW-M instead of RAW-L on my D850. Granted, it's still 25MP in size (and plenty enough to print), but would have loved full resolution.

Import the file into the new version of Lightroom and run the enhance feature. It will be huge and just as good as if it was shot at full res

I've heard rumors about it, and now I'll have to try it to see how it looks!

It's a nice shot - Crit wise it's a little flat processing wise. There's room to keep it real but inject a little more punch, try hitting the mid tone slider and increasing that, and the highlights or whites.

Or in curves bring the white point in a little.

You know, I've gone back and forth on how much I wanted to punch it. After spending some time away, I agree with you. I've added a little punch with curves adjustment and I do think it looks better, while maintaining a natural look. I appreciate the feedback.

Thank you, Pete!

Thanks, Mike! I originally had this in a time-lapse sequence. The time-lapse was ehhh (I should have shot more so I could play back in 60fps), but as I was scrolling through this scene caught my attention. I went back and edited as a single photo.
