When I leave work (7am) I like to go to a park and relax while feeding the birds and squirrels. There are a lot of trees in the park and the sun is just coming up so lots of light and dark places. Editing is quite hard with some photos so any tips would be much appreciated, thank you :) DSC_0004.jpgDSC_0011.jpgDSC_0038.jpg

Given the shadows and such, I suspect a soft box flash, just a small one will open all the shadow and balance the image. I don't know what's available, but at this point in time I would guess you have a wide choice of small units that are easy to use, can be taped to the camera and are battery operated. Not knowing what camera you're using it may have a tiny pop up flash on it. If it's a phone, maybe it has something like that.

This light is pretty tricky to manage. About the only thing you can do is wait for the subject to be in an area of consistent light and try to expose for that.

What David said. It’s one thing to set up with lighting but for me it’s if you don’t at first succeed, try, try, try again.

My personal experience is that Squirrels are only to pleased to pose when rewarded with food. This may take many visits to gain their confidence, I would suggest you pick a quiet area with good lighting and starts leaving nuts for them to find (even if your not there). After a while they will return to the same place and will after a short while be entirely comfortable with your presence. I am extremely lucky to have Red's visit my garden daily and they love the rope walk to the feeder. Good Luck and enjoy these fun creatures......

I would agree with the above comments. I tend to look for a decent background and lighting first as that for me is the most important. Then get the squirrels to come to that spot with a few tasty treats. The grey squirrels are quire bold and will come with a bit of coaxing. Jamming peanuts in the bark can work well as they have to stop and work for their food. Check you are allowed to though as technically they are considered an invasive vermin. Some parks really frown upon feeding them while others seem to encourage it.

Thank you everyone :)
The park is fine with them being fed, it's so popular, the squirrels, the pigeons and even the gulls get fed there.
You have given me some ideas, I will get some monkey nuts (the birds haven't worked out how to open them yet lol) and a container and see if can persuade them to get a bit closer :) Ironically my bridge camera took lovely pictures of them, I might just have to get another one :)
