Hi Guys, have just joined, just beginning photography, I was hoping if someone could help plz
I was given a lens by a good friend, "super-takumar 3.5/135mm" it's an old, however in very good nick.
However It won't fit on my Camera, Nikon (D800) is there some sort of adaptor thing ?
I have been looking up stuff on-line but it's way to confusing, I read I can use it, then I cant..

Yes u can’t use it but you would need and adaptor. What type of lens mount does it have?

Sounds like a 42 m/m thread. I am not sure if there is an adapter . Someone will know though.

There are two types of M42 to Nikon adaptors available. The first has no glass and will not let you focus to infinity with the Takumar lens. The second has a glass element which will focus to infinity but destroys the quality of said lens. Both are near useless.

Thanx Ed for your feed back, it's not a great loss, if I have to put it in a cupboard.

Don't give up on it entirely - all is not lost. The 1st adapter @Roger S mentioned is quite inexpensive and may allow you to use the lens for close-up shots. There are decent (not great) adapters with a corrective lens allowing focus to infinity for about $25 USD from Vello and FotodioX. But Roger is correct that adapters with lenses typically reduce the image quality of the adapted lens.
