The squirrels are stealing our bird nuts! this is supposed to be a squirrel proof nut feeder. Anyone got any recommendations on how to keep them at bay?

If they are coming up the tree then you can put an upside down cone low down on the tree. It they are jumping to the tree from elsewhere then you have no chance.

This is the best solution I have ever seen but even it isn't completely squirrel proof.

I have this one, and it took a couple of tries before the Squiggles just backed off and gave up.

Thanks fellas! @Phill104 they are amazing jumpers!

@Roger S I may have to resort to something like this!

Squirrels are pretty clever when they are determined.

I’ve noticed! There’s one hogging the feeder chasing off the others. My daughter thinks they are cute. She’s started giving them names and putting out nuts for them ☺

Great photos of "theft in Nature"!!! Only way I can think of to give the birds a fair chance is to do what my father used to do, attach a few 'rods' of wood around the cage that the birds can sit on before entering close in the cage for the nuts, but close enough together that the squirrels cannot get between them to get at the nuts.

Well “Acro the Greedy” squirrel has bitten a hole on the wire mesh holding the nuts. He emptied it is 1 day!

I got a stainless steel cylinder feeder now. The squirrels seem to have more difficulty getting the nuts out so don’t nt spend a lot to time on it. The woodpeckers are back feeding from it several times a day now. We’ll see how long it lasts!

Meanwhile Peanut (mummy), Hazel and Bazil (kids) are eating nuts in the shell that my daughter puts out.
